i stay quiet now, knowing that someone's outside. desperately, though, i search for help on my phone. a notification rings from my phone again, shrill and upbeat, as if i'm not drowning myself in fear.

usually, i would be happy about this, but this has gotten out of hand. way out of hand. and all i can think about is what kurapika had said about them once, when he was ranting. i had been mindlessly reading his chats, not having the energy to respond.

i press on the link, before immediately exiting. all the newscasters are talking about is how dangerous the phantom troupe is and how, if we spot one, we should not socialise or try to stop them. the only people who really could stop them is -

"no one," a panicked news reporter stumbles into camera view. "no one can stop them. i ... " he huffs and puffs, clearly out of breath. "i just watched the entire police force get slaughtered by one man."

"one man?" the woman asks. 

"one man," the man confirms, bobbing his head excessively. "one man."
