Where the pain began

Percy stared down at the battle fields, grief stricken. All his friends lay somewhere amung the destruction, dead.

Percy started slowly walking, his legs pushing him forward. The first person he saw was Frank. Klutzy, caring, strong, sweet Frank. Frank was one of the only friends he had at camp Jupiter. A steady stream of tears started flowing down Percy's grimy face at the sight of his friend, there in a crumpled heap, with blood oozing from his head. Frank had fought strongly but in the end he died, while Gaea burned his life stick right in front of him. He was finally starting to stop the fire, when some monster came and whacked with a club. He didn't even get a chance to say any last words.

The next person he cam across was Hazel. Hazel had died fighting next to Frank. She was quick and with her magic and powers, she was almost unstoppable. Almost. A cyclops had come up behind her and stabbed her in the stomach when she paused to look at Frank's body. She screamed "Win for me and Frank. At least we'll be together in Elysium." Then the sword took Hazel's life completely.

Piper was there right next to Jason. They had died together in battle. they had helped with Gaea's destruction, Jason getting her off the ground and Piper's charm speak had lulled Gaea back for a little nap while we were trying to figure out how to do long term damage. That had drained their powers so much that as soon as they got the ground they passed out. They got trampled; I had just killed a cyclops and ran over to drag them to safety. It was to late, the damage couldn't be healed. Jason looked up at me and breathed out, "Avenge us, all of us. Make sure Gaea never gets to see daylight again."

He looked a few feet ahead of himself, and through the blur of tears he saw Leo. The one with all the walls that Percy never quite managed to smash down. He had exploded in the final attempt to demolish Gaea. At least he'd finally get to be with his loved ones. They all would. Before we went into battle, he confronted me about leaving Calypso. We talked and although we had never been close, I was hoping he would make it to save her. Even though the odds were against us, I think we all assumed we would make it out alive. He figured he would make it out alive and be able to save her. I did to. Leo would never get to bring Calypso back. Ever. Calypso would be left again, with her heart broken worse then before, filled with a false hope.

Annabeth. Percy fell and was shaking, unable to do anything but cry. The image of her, screaming his name, covered in blood, when she was slashed by Gaea. A sob racked his body; the painful memories crashed over him in waves and he couldn't breath. He didn't want to. He couldn't stand it. "Annabeth" he cried out clutching her lifeless form in his arms. "ANNABETH" he screamed even after his voice was no more than a whisper. He had rushed to her as soon as he heard her cry out. She had fallen and was holding a gash stretching across her body. He tore off pieces of his shirt that weren't already burnt and tried to stop the bleeding, but it was coming from everywhere and he couldn't help her. She looked into his eyes and he put her hand to his cheek. With her last breaths she whispered out, "Seaweed brain...." The light left her eyes and his life. Thinking about it made his heart shatter. Percy's body was shaking and rocking back and forth with the pain and torture of seeing her like this. She would never tell another interesting fact about a building that no one but her would know; she would never see the completion of her Mt. Olympus construction; her eyes would never sparkle they way they did when she looked at him after he did something ridiculous. "It should've been me. It was all my fault." he whispered to her never hearing ears. "IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME!"

He suddenly felt a strong hand on his shoulder and turned around to see his dad standing with tears glistening in his eyes.

"I'm...I'm sorry Percy." Poseidon said gently.

Percy turned to face him, "Can you fix it, dad? Bring her back, being them all back? Please, dad I'll do anything."

"I'm sorry son." he said.

The small speck of hope in Percy's eyes vanished immediately and he started muttering to himself. "I can't fix this. It's all my fault. It's all my fault." over and over. Poseidon looked crestfallen at the sad sight of his son.

"Percy" he said timidly, "it's not your fault."

"DAD IT'S ALL MY FAULT, THEY ARE DEAD AND IT IS ALL MY FAULT!!!" Percy collapsed onto Annabeth's broken body.

"I know. But it's ok now. Gaea's done and everything is fine." he said even though he didn't believe himself.

"BUT DAD I LOVE HER!! I LOVE HER!! IDON'T CARE IF THE WORLD BURNS, IF SHE ISN'T HERE NOTHING IS OK OR FINE OR GOOD! NOTHING EVER WILL BE." The cry scraped his throat. "Nothing ever will be."
