Percy's POV

It was the day of the shroud burnings and I decided to ask Chiron to look at the shrouds beforehand. I wanted to make sure that they had gotten everything perfect. I couldn't let somebody who didn't know them very well design my friends shrouds and mess it up.
Chiron didn't even hesitate to let me see them. "I'm sorry Percy, it's hard for all of us." was all he said as he nodded his head.
Percy walked slowly to the room where the shrouds were being held. He started walking down the length of the table with the shrouds. He saw Jason's, it was half camp half-blood flag and half camp Jupiter flag with lightning bordering it. It had his name printed in the center. It was perfect for Jason. The next one was Leo's. His was covered in flames, it had been enchanted it looked like it was really on fire. It had his name spelled out in front of two crossed hammers. Frank's was covered in every single animal imaginable and the sign of a praetor. It had his name in bold purple writing with a golden laurel encircling it. Hazel's was designed with Circe's design on it. On the bottom of her shroud was covered in jewels and precious gemstones. Her name was written in cursive loopy letters that looked elegant and beautiful. Annabeth's was amazing, she had designed it herself. It was gray and shimmered with owls gliding across it. There was a circle in the center that was bordered with...with fish and owls entwined to...together. Her name was written out in sea green letters, the same color as my...as my eyes. A flow of tears started to fall on to her shroud and I turned away, not wanting to ruin it. I was about to walk out when I saw Piper's shroud. One of her sisters, Lacey, I think it was had designed it. And she had designed it all wrong. It was pink with two doves behind her name. There were pictures of hearts and roses with doves and other things. She would've HATED it, anyone who really knew Piper wouldn't ever think to make her a shroud like that. I was furious!
I stormed upstairs and Chiron saw my expression. "Is it about Piper's shroud? I knew you wouldn't be happy about it, but I thought we could let it go. We have so many other dead and we didn't have time to fix the shroud. I'm sorry Percy, but unless you fix it before the burning tonight, we are just going to have to deal with it." Chiron said to me. "Fine then" I told him, "I'll fix it, for her I'll fix it." Chiron looked surprised "But, Percy, you don't know how to sew and, no offense but you aren't the best artist. Not to mention, there is only 5 hours left to the burning." Chiron told me. "I don't care. After what they did for me, for everybody, I'll do anything for them.I wouldn't even question doing something as simple as that and five hours is more then enough time." I responded maybe a little to sharply. "Fine then, go ahead and try, but if it's not ready, we'll have to use the other shroud." Chiron sighed. I walked out of the room and started working on the shroud.
An hour later, I had a shroud drawing for Piper. I went over to the Big House to get some supplies to make her shroud. Piper was like my sister, and I would never let her shroud get messed up. I got the supplies and sewed till my fingers bled.
Three and a half hours later I had a white shroud decorated with the feathers she always wore in her hair, a picture of her knife with her name in front of it. Around her name was different things that fit her personality. Thing only thing that had anything to do with Aphrodite was one turtle dove in the corner of the page. It looked kinda scruffy and a little like a ten year old did it, but I would have somebody fix it up before the burning.
I went over to the Circe cabin and they helped enchant some of the pictures.
Ten minutes before the burning I was going over my speech when I saw Piper's new shroud being brought out. It looked so much more like something she would like, then that girly shroud that her sister had made. I was quite proud of myself actually.
I walked up on the little platform they had set up in front of the fire. I said my speech as I gently tossed the each shroud into the fire. Annabeth's was the last shroud I threw in, and I could barely even finish my speech. But I had to stay strong, for Annabeth, I had to do this for her.
I went back to my cabin after the ceremony and cried myself to sleep yet again.
