CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE
Within the next couple of weeks, Liam has been dealing with the divorce, leaving not a lot of time to spend with me. It's okay, though, because I do see him some, and I know he's pretty stressed. I've picked up some extra hours at work and was able to pay my parents back some more money for college. I even been hanging out with Blake, who isn't doing well. After the scuff me and Emily has, she finally told him about what happened. And to say that Blake hated her would be an understatement. I don't blame him, either.
Katie and I have hung out some more, too, and we're actually planning a little getaway vacation to California for a weekend, Liam included. She's been dating someone, too, and she's bringing him along so that we can meet. But we're going when Liam's divorce is finalized. Which, according to Liam, shouldn't be that much longer.
I've even been hanging out with his little sister, Amber, who is definitely the funny one in the family. She's a prankster, always pranking not just Liam, but her parents, too. I honestly wish I had the type of relationship she and Liam have with their mom and dad, because I know me and my parents will never get along like this. I'm not even sure if we'd ever get along. They haven't even met Liam, yet.
I'm currently cleaning up his cabin while I wait for him to get back. Today's the actual day of court, and he's been gone since six this morning. It's nearly two, and I hope he'll be back soon. The clock is ticking way too slow, and I'm beginning to get anxious. I keep pacing back and forth between the kitchen, living room, and upstairs, not able to stay in once place. I already have finished cleaning the cabin, even sat by the lake for half an hour – which is beautiful by the way. Dinner is already in the oven too. I just finished that ten minutes ago, thinking he would have been home sooner.
Does divorce court always take this long?
With a sigh, I plop down on the couch, burying my face in my hands and letting a loud groan out. Maybe I should take a nap and hope he's back by the time I wake up. Before I can get off the couch, the sound of the front door opening causes me to turn my head. Liam comes walking through, his parents trailing behind them, laughter drifting through the cabin. I jump off the couch, and Liam strides over to me, pressing a kiss against my temple.
I'm definitely assuming it went well.
"Hey, babe. It smells good in here."
"I made dinner. Glad I fixed enough, too. I didn't know your parents were joining." I give his mom and dad a hug. "I made pot roast. It just finished not too long ago."
"Ah, see. You already have a keeper," his mom joked, nudging him in the side. "I don't think the other one cooked. She was too busy spending your money."
Liam scratches the back of his neck. "Can we not talk about her, please? She's old news now." He turns to me with a loving expression on his features, pushing some stray hairs out of my face. Leaning down, he gives me a soft kiss. "I'm finally a divorced man. Now I'm all yours."
I giggle against his lips, wrapping my arms around his neck. If his parents weren't here right now, I would definitely take him right here in the living room. He smiles and pulls back, and we head into the kitchen where his parents are sitting at the table. I walk over to the oven and put my oven mitts on before taking the pot roast out, and I set it on top of the stove. I tell Liam to go sit with his parents while I fix everyone's plate. I hand it to them before fixing my own, and then take my rightful spot beside the man I love.
"It smells wondering, dear."
I smile at her. "It's a family recipe," I tell her.
Then we all dig in, our conversation not once going to Danielle or the divorce. It's like she never existed. I do hope, however, that she doesn't try to stir up any trouble and actually goes away. But who knows? Women can be crazy.
