CHAPTER SEVEN
"We think you need to go back to school."
I decided to visit my parents to see if they were still mad at me for dropping out of college. And sure enough, my mom still seems kind of bitter. When she opened the door earlier, her lips twisted into a scowl and her eyes hardened. My dad was emotionless.
Sighing, I scratch the back of my neck, refusing to look my mom in the eye. "I don't want to, though."
My mom inhales deeply through her nose, but she doesn't say anything. Neither does my dad. Shaking my head, I stand up and go to leave. Coming here was a mistake. All I wanted to do was apologize to them for wasting their money, but obviously they are still holding a grudge. I didn't realize parents could hold grudges on their children for this long.
They don't attempt to stop me. When I reach for the door, I look over my shoulder at them. "I'll pay you back for every dollar that y'all spent on me. It'll take me a while, but I will."
I don't give them a chance to respond. I leave the house without another word, walking slowly to my car. It's not easy having your parents mad and disappointed in you. What makes it worse is that they don't want an apology. Guess I can't blame them for being mad, though. They work hard for the money they make, and I just let them waste it me just for me to laugh in their face and quit college.
Man, I suck as a daughter.
It doesn't take me long to get back home. Since it's ten in the morning, there isn't really much traffic out since everyone is at work by now. I walk inside my apartment and throw my keys on the table and walk into my room. Pressing my hands on the dresser, I lean forward and take a good look at my reflection. I look really boring, and it makes me wonder what Liam sees in me,
Taking my glasses off, I rub my eyes, and then pick at my hair. Hm. Maybe I should dye my hair and really invest in contacts. Maybe I won't look so plain anymore.
I put my glasses on and grab my keys. Yeah, it's definitely time for a change.
When I arrive at the hair salon, there's a little wait. So I use that time to flip through the books for different hair styles and colors. There's something that catches my eye. A shaggy medium length bob is what it looks like. It will definitely be new, considering I'm used to having long hair.
Once it's my turn, I show the hair stylist what I want, and she asks if there's anything else I want to do to my hair. "I want to dye it black."
"Are you sure?" she asks, narrowing her eyes. "Once you dye your hair black, it will not be an easy process to go back blonde if you ever plan on it."
"I don't," I say.
She nods and says nothing else. She disappears to the back to get my dye ready, and I flip through a magazine as I wait for her to get back. Ten minutes later, she returns, and we start doing my hair.
An hour and a half later, I look like a completely different person, and I can't help but smile as I touch the ends of my hair. The black definitely makes my eyes stand out, and I really can't wait to get some more contacts so that I don't have to wear these crappy glasses anymore. I thank the stylist and make sure to tip her well when I pay.
I walk down the sidewalk and look at all the clothing stores. I stop in front of a lingerie store, peering through the display case of a pretty black lace lingerie set. Heading inside, I find the closest employee and ask her if she has another set of what's in the window. She smiles and leads me to the rack.
"Everything in here is made with good quality material, so it's a little on the pricey. I have the same one in red and pink, too, if you want to take a look at them."
