jackson: jaebeom told me you're going on a date tonight

jinyoung: yeah lol

jinyoung: getting prepped for it as we speak

jackson: who is it with?

jinyoung: it's none of your business

jackson: actually, it is.

jackson: if you wind up going out with that person, it would affect our project

jinyoung: i've never let my previous relationships affect my assignments

jackson: this is a very important project, you know. it's 60% of our final grade.

jinyoung: no shit, i wouldn't have threatened you with a lawsuit if i thought it wasn't

jackson: then don't do it

jinyoung: do what?

jackson: don't go on that date.

jackson: look, i'm saying this for the sake of our project.

jackson: go on as many dates as you want after this term ends, but don't go on this date.

jinyoung: you're still on about that?

jinyoung: you're being ridiculous and out of line here

jackson: you have to take full responsibility of our baby, jinyoung!

jinyoung: baby??

jinyoung: you're making this sound very fucking weird, jackson, and i'm not sure if i like where this is going. 

jackson: our project is essentially our adopted child, you can't just walk away from our responsibility like this

jinyoung: you're acting like i'm definitely going to end up going out with them or something

jinyoung: it's just one date

jinyoung: and even if i do end up going out with them, so what? it's not going to affect anything, i can promise you that. i'm not that much of an idiot to not know what my priorities are.

jinyoung: i don't even know why i'm explaining this to you, this is none of your business

jackson: are you really going to go?

jinyoung: yes

jackson: don't go

jackson: i don't want you to go

jackson: please

jackson: i hope you understand this is also me worrying for your safety and definitely not because of any other reasons. what if you get into some freak accident on the way? what happens to our project then?

jinyoung: are you seriously trying to curse me?

jackson: i'm being a concerned project partner

jinyoung: you do realise i could get into a freak accident any time, even when i'm not going on this date, right? i could end up in a terrible accident on the way to the library (for our project) for all we know.

jinyoung: touch wood on that but jesus christ, are you a handful

jinyoung: holy fucking shit, NEVER AGAIN.

jackson: wow, the all caps, that's once in a blue moon coming from you

jackson: and you made it out alive

jinyoung: yes i did

jinyoung: well, half alive

jinyoung: i am never going on dating apps again

jinyoung: i stayed to be polite, but god, did i want to leave so bad even though we were only five minutes into the date

jackson: that's even more dangerous than meeting someone organically

jinyoung: organically?

jackson: yeah, like meeting someone in real life, without the need for dating apps

jackson: the possibilities of you getting murdered is pretty high because you don't know if they really are who they are

jinyoung: i thought i was skeptical but look at you

jackson: i'm only saying this in your best interest

jinyoung: sure you are

jinyoung: you're relieved it didn't work out, aren't you?

jackson: yes

jackson: for the sake of our project

jinyoung: sure, for the sake of our project

Jinyoung sighs, collapsing into his bed. He throws his phone onto the bed and lays on his bed, sprawled out.

He's so fucking tired, he could fall asleep right now, but he also needs to change, and brush his teeth. Perhaps take another shower, because the date had left him feeling grimy and all sorts of annoyed.

And he needs to answer Jackson, because he just text him — Again.

[20:06]

jackson: see, you finally get it

Jinyoung stares at the text, suddenly struck by a thought with the force of a freight train.

Wait a goddamned second — Why does he feel the need to answer Jackson? There's no reason for him to feel obligated to even text Jackson in the first place, other than for the project.

"For the project," he repeats in a murmur as he takes his phone and plugs it into the charging outlet.

That's all this is — For the project. That's the only constant they'll be sharing, and then that will be it.

Once this is over, whatever this is between them will come to an eventual end.

At least that was what he had longed for once, because he's not too sure if that's what he wants anymore.

a/n: Literally just finished a re-watch of  Stranger Things s1-3, bawled my eyes out for the 2nd time watching that last ep in s3 (even though I know my man's alive and well). How's your day been?
