Chapter 12

Christina

"Baby stop playing and give me a kiss."

I rolled my eyes at my wife's antics as she threw a fit. I was getting ready to head out the door but she held on to my waist refusing to let me go.

" Baby I have to get to work. How else am I going to take care of you and our son."

I rubbed her now protruding stomach with love. She was getting ready to pop any day now... I couldn't wait to be a mother.

" You must forgot who I am. I told you that you didn't have to work anymore. I got more than enough money to take care of us."

" That's your money baby and besides I know you love to see me in uniform."

" You're right. My sexy ass hero...go kick ass for me baby but please be safe."

She held my face in the palm of her soft hands and gave me a loving kiss. I felt butterflies in my stomach as she kissed me. After all these years, this woman could still make me feel heaven-bound.

" I love you Christina."

" I love you more Mel"

" That's impossible."

I was awoken out of my dreams by a loud scream. Natural instincts kicked in and I grabbed my gun running towards to Melanie's room. I ran through the room with my gun aimed but she wasn't there which made me start to panic.

"Melanie? Mel? MELANIE!!!"

I searched the room frantically trying to find her but she wasn't there. I ran downstairs with tears in my eyes. My heart was pounding as I started to panic even more. Finally, I ran to the kitchen and I released a heavy sigh. She was sitting by the island with a cup of coffee in front of her. Her eyebrows arched as she took in my panicked state.

"You alright Christina? You look like you've seen a ghost or something."

"I-I  Jesus Melanie you almost gave me a heart attack."

"I'm sorry? I didn't mean to."

"I heard you scream. Are you alright? Are you hurt?"

She looked at me and laughed but I didn't find anything funny right now. When she saw that I wasn't laughing, she came and stood before me and hugged me.

"I'm sorry Chris I didn't mean to laugh. I'm fine I only screamed because I went outside for the newspaper and your neighbors' down came running towards me."

"Melanie you can't do that...not when I'm not here or awake to see you. I promised to protect you at all costs. Please don't do that again. You have to stay inside okay? Unless I'm with you so promise me you won't do that again."

"Christina it's not a big deal I just went to the mailbox."

"And anything could've really happened to you. Promise me Melanie."
