Maggie stopped at a hotel a few hours away from the compound and got a room for her and Bucky. "Doesn't your mom live near the compound?" He watched her as she put her bag on the table, removing her coat.

"Yes. About an hour away from the compound. But that's the first place they'll look for us." She shrugged, looking at him and smiling, "we are going the long way around the barn James." She left him alone in the room as she went to the bathroom to change into pajamas. She laid on the bed as Bucky got up to do the same thing.

Bucky came out of the bathroom in shorts seeing her laying on the bed, "I'll sleep on the floor."

"Don't be ridiculous, we can both sleep on the bed Buck." She patted the bed next to her, "come on." He hesitated, but laid next to her. He cradled his head in his metal hand as he laid facing her. Maggie turned to face him, "can I ask about her? The girl, Peggy. What was she like Buck?"

Bucky sighed, "she was beautiful. She was smart, and strong. Competent. She stood up for herself and for others. She didn't let people tell her what to do in a time when women didn't have much of a voice." He leaned forward, caressing her cheek softly, "it's no wonder you remind him of her."

"And I look like her?"

"Only a little bit. Yeah. You're a lot like her, and your name is Margaret. But you have gorgeous blue eyes."

She looked away from him, "and Steve was in love with her? They were together?"

Bucky laid back on the bed, "yes and no. He was in love with her, yes. But it was a different time, it's not like we were fornicating in our barracks. They kissed once. If they had both made it out of the war together, he probably would have married her. But she is a distant memory Maggie." He grabbed her arm, "come on, lay down."

She pulled her arm away from him, "why does he hate me then? Because I remind him of her?"

Bucky laughed, sitting up, "he doesn't hate you. He never did. He has feelings for you and he didn't know how to tell you. Because you remind him of her he didn't know how to deal with those feelings. So he thought it would be better to not deal with them. To push you away. But I assure you doll, he doesn't hate you."

She looked at him, tears starting to roll down her face, "so he only likes me because I remind him of her?"

Bucky pulled her down to his chest as he laid back down, "of course not. Let's just sleep, okay?"

Bucky wakes up the next morning to an empty bed. He jumped out of bed to find a note on the table from Maggie:

Went to the store. I'll be back.

He sighed, trying to calm himself. He was scared she had left him. He didn't want her to be alone, not now. He had just gotten dressed when he heard her enter the hotel behind him, "you scared me. I woke up alone."

"Ah. Poor James." She laughed at Bucky rolling his eyes. She tossed him a phone, "now you can check in with Steve without them being able to track us."

He tried to deny wanting to, but she was smarter than that, "thanks."

Maggie pulled out some scissors and clippers from her bag, "isn't it time to stop being the Winter Soldier, Bucky? Let me cut your hair. It'll be easier for us to be incognito if we change our looks." She saw him hesitate, "please James?"

Bucky groaned, "fine doll." She squealed as she watched him strip down to his underwear, laying his clothes neatly on the bed. She watched the muscles of his chest and stomach and arms as he grabbed a chair and sat down. "Do your worst doll." She grabbed a towel, wrapping it around him as she began to cut his hair. She kept the top kind of long, trimming the sides short. She stood in front of him, her face close to his as she checked the evenness on the sides.

She blew softly, blowing a few hairs out of his face. "You should really should keep the facial hair Buck." She leaned on her hands, placing them on his legs after removing the towel around him, "it looks good Buck." She wanted to move, but she felt transfixed in her spot.

"Are you going to move doll?" He brushed some hair out of her face. Before either of them could think, he pulled her to him, making her straddle him on the chair. She moaned as her lips found his. His tongue was quick to find hers as he stood up, lifting her with him. He pinned her under him on the bed as his mouth found her neck. He groaned as he stood up from the bed, "I can't do this."

Maggie sat up, pointing to his underwear, "kind of looks like you can."

Bucky laughed, grabbing a towel to cover his hardness. "That's not what I meant." He pointed to his hair all over the floor, "clean this up while I take a shower." Maggie scoffed as she did what he requested. After she finished cleaning up she grabbed the bleach from the bag of stuff she bought from the store. She had her head covered by the time Bucky came out of the shower. He pointed to her head, "what are you doing?"

"I'm going blonde. I don't want to look like her."

"Oh doll. You don't have to do that." He stroked her cheek softly.

"I want to." She pulled away from him, "why do you call me doll, but can't sleep with me?"

"Hey. It's not that I don't want to. You're sexy and perfect. But I can't. I'm sorry."

She grabbed him by the band of his pants, "why not?"

He groaned as he looked down at her hands before grabbing them, "because my best friend is in love with you." He didn't know how much longer he could control himself. He had wanted her since he first turned around to see her that first night. It was all he thought about.

Maggie laughed and entered the bathroom, "love. Right." She shut the door behind her as Bucky sighed, laying on the bed.

Bucky was reading on the bed when Maggie finally emerged from the bathroom almost an hour later as a blonde. "Wow. I thought you were hot as a brunette."

She giggled and sat on the bed next to him, "you know, I'm not asking you to fall in love with me. I'm just asking for you to sleep with me."

She pressed her body against his, making him moan before he pushed her off of him. "You're really testing my self control doll."

She huffed, pouting next to him on the bed, "it's just sex."

"And when we eventually go home and he finds out we slept together? That won't be good for you or for me. Or more importantly, for him. I'm sorry Maggie. I can't." He ran his thumb over her lower lip, "you have no idea how badly I want to. But we can't. I'm sorry." He laid back on the bed, "and I call you doll because I like you."
