Chapter 20

Ethan found a diary like set of papers that Heisenberg had written about what Miranda had done to him and the village. Scarlett frowned deeply when he mentioned that through the megamycete Miranda could turn into anyone and that little Rose was the key to his plans. It also mentioned that he was interested in Ethan, but she flinched when he mentioned her, his exact words written were 'if Midnight can control the megamycete once she's been infected then she might be an even better weapon that Rose. I'll have to wait for further research on the woman but maybe I can get her to help me instead.'

  "I won't let myself be used as a weapon again, nor will I allow it to happen to anyone else." She hissed once Ethan had finished reading the papers aloud. Ethan said nothing since he knew that she was angry once more and it was better to let her cool herself down than try to and calm her. Once that was done, they headed through the door into a new large part of the factory and dropped from a ledge into the room.

  They climbed a short ladder up onto a very thin walkway, Scarlett opting to walk behind her friend in case he slipped so she could catch him and keep him from falling into the area far below. Once across they got into a small cart thing and Ethan pulled the lever, so it started lifting up. Once up through the oddly shaped hole in the ceiling they found themselves looking at the only door leading into another room. Once inside they realized it was the room behind, they locked door from the first room they had come into once entering the factory.

  Ethan went to open the double doors since there was no other way through, but it was still locked, and they didn't have a way to unlock it. The bolts on the door began to rattle and Scarlett spun around to face the center of the room as she felt Heisenberg nearing them. She and Ethan were knocked to the ground when large pieces of metal smacked into them before going to the side and more began to swirl around the room like a small tornado.

  "Not bad, not bad, Winters. Scarlett. You're persistent, but I've got a rebellion to lead... So, stay out of my way." Heisenberg said as he walked down the makeshift stairs he made while they got to their feet and aimed at him. Scarlett scoffed at his words and wanted to reply but Ethan fired off a round and Heisenberg used metal to knock the bullet away. His advance made them back up as metal tried to hit them.

  "You really think that a bit of metal will stop me from tearing you apart?" Scarlett hissed as she sped through it while Ethan called out for her to stay with him as he was forced back. She had put away her guns and was attacking Heisenberg with her fists and feet, but he kept using metal to block her attacks.

  "I like a woman who has fire, too bad you refused to help me and didn't show enough control over the megamycete." Heisenberg said as he tried to attack her, but she was too fast. He grew irritated that he wasn't able to harm her, and the lights suddenly went out, Ethan was calling her name from behind the blockade he had gotten trapped behind and she could hear Heisenberg making odd sounds. She was suddenly knocked to the side as sparks flew as he attacked the blockade Ethan was behind and she caught a glimpse of the monster Heisenberg had allowed himself to become.

  "Don't. Come. Back!" He snarled at Ethan and hit the ground causing her friend to fall down the hole behind him before he turned to her. She moved to where she was standing on the edge of the hole and looked up at Heisenberg.

  "You don't get to leave. You're going to help me whether you want to or not!" Heisenberg hissed as he reached out his massive arm to grab her and found that he couldn't move, and he saw her eyes had turned red as she smirked coldly up at him.

  "You see, I really despise when people try to force me to do things. You didn't have to become this Karl, you could have ran and found a life for yourself." She said trying to make him see the error of his ways, even through she disliked the man she still didn't want to have to kill him. He held more humanity and pieces of himself than any of the other lords had.
