Jasper's POV weeks later
"Hello sirs and madams."I say
"Hello, Jasper. How has your day been going?"The guards ask as I pass them on the street
"Good! Going to see Encre!"I say
They nod and smile.
I rub my shoulder now covered in bandages, watching Suave stroll off on a date with his lover and all our friends walk around, happily talking. They've never seemed happier. You wouldn't think that there was a war outside the walls. That's how safe they felt. I was especially happy to see Encre's relatives living happily, knitting together on the front porch. They're finally free. I usually go to them to hear stories or hang out. I enjoy it since it feels like hearing stories from grandparents or great grandparents, though we aren't related. Nobody seemed divided by race or politics. We were just beings trying to enjoy life. I knock at the door to Encre's home and heard a quiet come in. I come inside and shut the door behind me. I see Encre with a canvas drying by the window, a new artwork upon it. He was going through the mail carefully, cheery as always. He looks over at me and sighs.
"First your arm climbing a tree, next your leg when trying to run down a rocky hill with a cat on your head, now your shoulder. What did you do this time?"He asks, setting the mail aside and coming over
I smile up at him, appreciating his concern. He may not realize it, but he has become such a parental figure for me.
"In my defense, the cat was a lost pet that I ended up returning! I donated my blood at the hospital!"I tell him
"Jasper, why do you keep sacrificing yourself for these activities?"He asks worriedly
"I want to explore and grow. I've had things handed to me due to my status that I was born into and the connections I have. Strangers only see a beast ready to suck blood or a prince who has it all. There is so much wrong with the world that I want to change. I want to help others in need. And it's only fair for all who have been hurt by Blood Moons for me to give some back. It could save lives! I don't want to be just some spoiled brat that doesn't use the status for good."I say
He smiles and kneels down.
"You're a good kid, Jasper. Your intentions are sweet and all, but you should really pace yourself. Do not hurt yourself to unessesary degrees for others, I've learned from that mistake. Don't worry about what others think. Cause if they really mattered they'd be the ones trying to get to know you. And you're still a child. You should enjoy your childhood without breaking every bone in that body of yours."He says sweetly
I nod, taking his words into consideration.
"Got anything special in the mail today?"I ask, my gaze lingering on the small pile.
"I don't know......."He says, opening an envelope.
His joy fades quickly.
"What's wrong?"I ask
"Another lesson, Jasper. No matter how badly you try to forget something, it still happened and has an impact on life...."He says
"Why? What's that?"I ask
He says nothing, reaching in and taking out tiny squares of paper. He drops the envelope after reading a letter inside. I quickly snatch it and read it.
"Dear Encre,
You didn't think you'd really escape did you? Your father may not be in power anymore, but I am! And I think something is overdue.~ Don't even argue against it. Cause I know exactly what you'll say.
You'll say...The price of my love's not a price that you're willing to pay...You'll cry like you did in the sea, which is where you belong to be, when you saw me go by. Why so sad? Remember he made an arrangement before you went away. Now you're making me mad.
Remember, despite our estrangement, I'm your man.
