"Mer, do you want me and Jo to come over tonight?" Alex asked Meredith as they ran through the halls

"Yes, please.. With Derek in DC and the kids.." She sighed "Damn, I have to pick up Ellis from hip hop in a few hours" Meredith looked at her watch "I hope this trauma wont take too long" She muttered

"Can't you ask someone to pick her up? Maybe their nanny?" Alex suggested

"I don't wanna abandon my kids" Meredith sighed

"You are not abandoning them, Mer. With Derek in DC it's all on you" Alex pointed out

"I hoped he would never agree to that.. I thought we were fine after Ellis was born" She wiped a few tears before they arrived in the ER

"Peyton Heart, 31 and fell down the second floor" The paramedic yelled

...

"Damnit, another bleeder" Meredith muttered "Amy, how's it going?"

"She's in for a tough recovery.." Amelia sighed

Meredith looked at the time "Damn, I'll never make it in time to get Ellis"

"What about the nanny?" Amelia asked

"I called her and she can go get Ellie but I really hoped to be off myself and spend the evening with the kids" Meredith sighed

"When's Derek back?" Amy asked

"At the end of this week.. I miss him so much" Meredith said "I feel so pathetic"

"You're not. Now call the nanny" Amelia laughed

One of the nurse's dialed the nanny's phone number and put the phone on speaker

"Okay Meredith, no problem. See you later" Riley said

"Bye Riley and thanks again" Meredith ended the phone call and went back to focussing on the surgery

...

Ellis finished changing and went outside to find her mom

"Ellis!" She heard Riley's voice

"Hi Riley!" Ellis smiled

"You mom was stuck in surgery but she promised me you'll watch a lot of movies tonight" Riley said

"Yeay! Where are Zo and Bails?" Ellis asked confused

"They are at school" Riley said "Now let's go so we can start on making popcorn"

Ellis grabbed Riley's hand and skipped her way to the car

Ellis sat down in the backseat and buckled herself in as Riley started the car. They were driving through Seattle and stopped in front of a red light

"Can we have grilled cheese?" Ellis asked

"Again?" Riley laughed

"It's been ages!" Ellis gasped

"You had it a couple of days ago" Riley frowned

"See, it's been way too long!" Ellis said but was cut off by a car that slammed in the back of the car, crushing Ellis's seat as blackness overtook her

"Ellis? Ellie, please.. Answer me, Ellis" Riley begged

Ellis was barely able to open her eyes as she felt so much pain

"Ellie, hey. Help is on the way, sweetie" Riley cried

"M-Mommy? Ellis whispered before falling unconscious again

The next thing Ellis heard were people screaming but one voice got her attention

"Hey, Ellis. Do you remember me?" Ben asked

Ellis wanted to nod but she was completely stuck so she tried to use her voice "B-Ben"

"That's right. I'm gonna get you out of here, okay?" He held her hand

"Kay" She whispered

"Okay, Ellis.. I need you to sit very still for me, we have to cut open the car so we're able to get you out. Can you be a brave girl for me?" Ben kept on holding her hand

"Yeah" Ellis quietly said

"I'm staying with you and I'll shield you" Ben said and covered up her face so she wouldn't get hit by glass

It took a long time before they could even start as the car was totally crushed in the back

"It hurts" Ellis whispered "I want mommy and daddy"

"We'll bring you to them in a bit" Ben said, his heart breaking for the little girl "Hurry up!" He yelled to his colleagues

Ellis was crying in the end but they were finally able to cut open the wreck

"Okay, Ellis. They are gonna lift you up and bring you to the hospital" Ben said

"To mommy?" Ellis asked

"To mommy" Ben promised "I'll go with her" he told his colleagues but as they would try to get the little girl out, he had to make a phone call first

"Hey, everything okay?" Ben could hear his wife's voice

"Oh, Miranda.. she's hurt and it's bad" He broke down

"Who's hurt? What happened?" Bailey freaked out

"Ellis"

"Ellis? Ellis Shepherd?" Miranda asked

"Yeah" Ben sighed

"Ben, what on earth happened?" Miranda lost her patience

"A car accident. She was in the back but it was all crushed.. She was being crushed and- I-"

"Ben, where are you guys?"

"We're on our way to Grey Sloan. They're moving her out of the car now" Ben told her

"I'll see you in a bit" Miranda said before hanging up the phone. She had to find Meredith and tell her about her little girl who got hurt

Bailey was hurrying through the halls of the hospital and saw Meredith was still in an OR so she decided to page Richard

"Bailey, what's wrong?" Richard asked

"Ellis Shepherd got hurt in a car accident. I have to go downstairs and see what damage has been done but we need to tell Meredith" Bailey said

"Go, I'll tell her. Do everything you can for her little girl!" Richard yelled as Bailey ran towards the ambulance bay

"Oh my- Meredith.." Richard muttered and decided to go wait in the scrubroom

It felt as if those 15 minutes took hours but Meredith was finally done and went to scrub out

"Can we have a minute for ourselves?" Richard asked the other staff

"Richard, what's wrong?" Meredith asked concerned

"It's Ellis" Richard started

"No! What's wrong with my little girl?" Meredith asked completely terrified

"She was in a car crash.. she's in the ER, they're examining her" Richard said but got no response. She ran towards the ER without thinking about anything else
