"Ellis, have you packed your clothes?" Meredith asked

"Yes mom" The teenager giggled as she texted a friend back before wheeling towards her mother "Can you help me pack my meds?" Ellis asked Meredith

"Of course, sweetie." Meredith smiled and did as she was asked

As they were finally finished Ellis had decided to go take a shower. She transferred herself to her shower chair, buckled herself in and started running the water so she could wash herself

...

"Mer, can you get Ellis? Dinner is almost ready" Derek smiled at his wife who was sipping her wine

"Of course" Meredith stood up, kissed her husband and made her way over to Ellis' room "Honey?" She softly knocked on the door

"Mom?" Ellis yawned as she looked up from her spot in the bed

"Hi sweetie, dinner is almost ready. Are you coming with me?" Meredith asked as she watched her daughter slide herself into the wheelchair "Are you excited for the trip?"

"Yes" Ellis smiled as she pushed herself towards the kitchen. She quickly took her meds before Derek placed the plates on the table and everyone started digging in

"So El, you promise to call us once a day, right?" Derek said as he ate his food

"Of course, dad" Ellis smiled "I'll call every day and I'll update you a few times a day" Ellis promised as she cut her meat

"Just try to enjoy, honey" Meredith smiled

...

The next day Meredith was helping Ellis into her green sweats. She then grabbed Ellis' bags and carried them to the front door

"Breakfast!" Derek announced

"French toast!" Ellis smiled as she wheeled to the table

"Specially made for you" Derek chuckled and put the plate down in front of her and kissed her head

"Thanks dad" Ellis smiled and her phone lit up again

"Hey, no phones while we're eating together" Meredith spoke up "Especially not today" She sighed

"We'll miss you, honey. We will miss you so so much" Derek smiled as he squeezed Meredith's hand as she started to get emotional

"I'll miss you too" Ellis smiled and started eating her French toast

A while later Derek lifted Ellis' wheelchair out of the car and held it as his daughter transferred into it

"Are you good like this?" Meredith asked as Ellis buckled herself in

"I'm good, mom" Ellis smiled and unlocked the brakes, texting her friends

"Let's go, honey" Meredith smiled and pushed her daughter until Ellis took over, knowing she didn't like to be pushed in public

"Ellis!" Ms Stone walked towards them

"Hi" The Shepherd family smiled

"Are you ready for the trip, sweetie?" The teacher asked

"I am" Ellis smiled "Have you seen Grace and Emma?" Ellis looked around

"Yes, they claimed the area around the back where you will sit" Ms Stone laughed "Okay, I just wanna discuss some small things here, can we double check everything?"

"Her backpack is always attached to her chair, she carries her meds, a pair of socks, a bottle of water and an extra pair of pants and catheter" Meredkth explained

"She hates strangers pushing her chair and doesn't always tell people when she is in pain or uncomfortable" Derek winked at his daughter "But she has her heating pad in case her back starts flaring up" Derek explained

"Okay. Ellis, what do you think? Are you ready to get on the bus?" The teacher asked

"I am" Ellis giggled and started hugging her dad tightly

"Take care, monkey. Love you" Derek kissed her forehead

"Mom" Ellis breathed and hugged her mother

"Oh Ellie" Meredith breathed and the both teared up slightly

"I'll call you once we've arrived" Ellis breathed as she hugged her mom tightly

"Perfect. Make sure to have fun, please. I love you so so so much, pumpkin" Meredith kissed Ellis' head

"Bye!" Ellis smiled and wheeled to the electric lift that would help her into the bus. Inside she strapped herself in and quickly started laughing with her friends as they were having the time of their lives. The friends kept singing and playing. The long ride was taking its toll on Ellis' body. They had stopped so the students could stretch their legs and use the restroom if needed but the teachers had opted for Ellis to stay in the bus 'because it took too long to load her in and out of the bus'. Luckily she didn't have to use the restroom and didn't feel the need to stretch her legs but it would be nice for her to be able to leave her chair for a moment, even prefering to be able to lay down and stretch out her back but she tried to shake it off, this trip had to be fun and she didn't want hold anyone else back or herself because she couldn't walk.
