your love life has always been tragic. growing up with your mothers terrible relationships never showed you what real love was about. even when you visited your father every other week, love could never be seen between him and your new stepmother. your father always weak against your controlling step mother. but there was nothing you could do, you were just a child born into a broken marriage.
that eventually broke you.
in high school you were always used and thrown away when guys got what they wanted from you. every toxic relationship consisted of lies and mistreatment, leaving you bawling your eyes out in your room. but then again you couldn't have done anything different, you never had a real example of what real love looked like. any boy could smooth talk you and you would fall on your knees for him.
your mother always tried giving you the absent father you missed, but a new boyfriend every month didn't help. the only guy that was decent enough to stay with your mother for over three months was jacob, but he left her after getting a new job in a different country. he was wise and put together, you were surprised your mother pulled such a man.
he was the closest thing you had of a parental figure. one day before he left you had one of your worst breakups and he heard you sobbing in your room. he asked your mother to check up on you, and that night he told you something you will never forget.
not everything will make sense immediately. you need to wait sometimes.
it wasn't necessarily love related, but his words changed your point of view for the better. sometimes you wondered what would've happened if your mother settled for him.
but you will never know.
the good thing was that after he left your mother realized she didn't need a man. about fourteen years passed by since your father left her and she wasn't gonna wait for a man to fix her life. the sad part is that she realized this when you went away for college a little too late.
scholarships had helped you pay for all four years and with the extra money from your parents you were good with tuition. they tried their best to be good parents in their own ways you supposed. although they were distant with you.
you often thought about the thing jacob told you. you were single most of your university career too busy going into a competitive field. being a passive person made you have a lot of catching up.
it didn't bother you, finally in a long time you didn't have to worry about pleasing a guy. but still a small part of you waited for that guy that will sweep you off your feet.
and as you waited, you met george.
on one of your grocery shopping runs you were too short to reach one of the jars of green olives. a very uncommon thing to buy but you always made sure to get a jar whenever you went to the grocery store. as you tried to reach the jar, jumping to get it george spoke up.
he walked towards you holding back a smile. "do you need any help?" the dark haired boy asked you looking at you obviously struggling.
when you looked down at him your heart skipped a beat. he was probably be the most gorgeous guy you've ever seen. the eye contact you held with him was painfully long, but george liked it. he looked at the way your cheeks turned red probably from embarrassment but he like to believe it was him causing that. he found it adorable how your eyes widened when you looked at him, like you just witnessed something shocking, but it was just him.
