The shelter was overall great. Organisado. Tahimik. Payapa. It was almost too good to be true. If you weren't observant enough, you would not even notice that the guards were killing infected people outside; they do it slickly through noise-suppressed guns and archery. It almost felt like there was no apocalyptic shit going around.

Piniga ko ang hawak kong soda can saka iyon initsa sa isang basurahan.

Tumukod ako sa balkonahe at pinagmasdan ang mga batang naglalaro sa grounds. EJ was playing with the other kids. From time to time, sinasaway sila ng ilang guards upang bawasan ang kanilang pag-iingay. This was the first time I have witnessed a functioning institution in months.

I gazed at Tony who was walking on the school grounds along with Nathaniel and Christopher. Sumaludo siya sa akin. Ganoon din ang ginawa ko sa kanya saka ngumiti. There were around ten possible entrances to this shelter. Each gate was being guarded by at least two armed people. The sun was already setting, an indication that Tony's shift was almost done.

He was probably headed to the armory to return his shotgun. Mga awtorisadong tao lamang ang maaaring humawak ng baril dito. As I was deemed important by Morris, he refused to assign me to anything that involved exposures with the infected.

"Look what we have here," the familiar insulting high-pitched voice killed the silence of the hall as Scarlet Abellana stepped out of the lounge from the second floor. "Anak ng magnanakaw," pang-uuyam niya sa 'kin.

"Mantakin mo? May ganitong unos na pero VIP pa rin ang mga katulad mo?" she scoffed. I shot her a glare. This was a small price to pay for being my father's daughter. I glanced at her with a stoic look in my eyes.

"What do you want, Scarlet?"

She clenched her jaw. "I want your whole family to perish," she answered nonchalantly. I smirked, shaking my head. Clearly, she did not know one shit about my family. My dad and I were probably the only two remaining in our bloodline.

"That's something I would also want for my father."

"Except that you didn't act upon making it happen before all this," Scarlet answered. "He hired a hitman to kill my father, Margot. You knew shit about it but you kept your mouth shut. The smug look on your face reminds me of how your father looked in court as his lawyer made a mockery of our justice by manipulating every shit evidence he has."

I released a heavy sigh, unable to empathize with what she was telling me. The case she was ranting to me about all stemmed from a business feud. The Abellanas were well-known for monopolizing the oil industry in the Philippines. Her family wasn't as dirty as mine but they sure as hell weren't as clean and pure as divinity.

"I would like to apologize for your loss but my father's faults aren't mine. I have my own shortcomings too that I have to make up for. It wasn't my fault I was born to a shitty father, and it wasn't my fault that your dad is stupid enough to get killed."
