"i promise, we won't get caught" the blonde boy whispered into laylas ear before pulling her across the dock

"it's 5am" layla whispers back in return to the tall, dark blonde boy who was hovering above her,
"aven will wake up soon and notice im gone"

"then we better go quick" he smirks before pulling layla across the dock towards the boat.

they stop running once reaching the dock with the camerons boat in the corner of their eye as he releases laylas hand dropping to sit on the dock, layla looking down at him before sitting next to him, the duo swaying their legs through the cold water, the sunlight reflecting on their tanned legs and they're eyes watching each droplet of water cling to their skin

"did you drag me out of bed to dip my feet or did you want something?" layla asks the boy who doesn't look at her just into the distance

"maybe i just like your company" rafe replies in a quiet voice

"have you gone soft?" layla smiles in his direction, he snaps his head in her direction watching her features lift making a smile appear on his own face

"of course not" he replies leaning closer to her warm face,
"im still the cold hearted monster that i was born to be"

"you're not a monster" layla replies turning away to look at the sunrise,
"your misunderstood" she finishes with a light whisper making his face soften

"misunderstood?" he repeats and she nods

"yes" she says before turning to look at the boy, "aren't we all just misunderstood? just a bunch of kids that were thrown into a certain lifestyle not having the choice in our own upbringing it all just depending on our parents to make the right decision" she whispers before looking back at the sun
