Chapter 48.5 - Chelsea POV

When everyone leaves Gabriel's office he sits in his chair, and I straddle him enjoying our proximity no longer sleepy despite the early morning hour we were awaken. "You went to the Hereafter without me," he pouts.

Chuckling, I smile, "I don't think that's going to be the only time I go there without you, plus I think after that last awkward encounter with Jason, you wouldn't-"

"Wouldn't what? Want to be around the person that saved you... that gave you everything you deserved to have as a young girl and more? If anything I'm a bit upset it took so long to find you," Gabriel grumbles. His eyes show complete sincerity in that moment, he truly believes everything he just said and a piece of me inside melt at his words.

Jay might be your biological father, but Jason is the one that has shown you love, he added and I nodded.

"I didn't want to say this with everyone in here, but Marx and Camilla didn't betray me - us. Mother said that since I made that alliance with them, their minds have been off limits to the Elders, even now..." I move around until my ear is flat against Gabriel's chest listening to his heartbeat.

"Did you want to bring them back?" I shake my head.

"Actually with what I learned I think we need to move Andrew-" I stop when Gabe stiffens, "What do you mean?" sighing I push the rest of the conversation that I held back when the others were in here.

"So the Elders know that you healed Cami, Ethan and Andrew as well, so if they can't test their theories on my aunt Cami... they're going to use their next available person-" and I can almost see when it all clicks for him.

"This guy has your blood, which means the Elders have your blood," he chokes out having heard the whole story, nothing missing. "Why - why didn't you tell me this earlier Chelsea? Those - they have your blood-"

Again he stops mid sentence shrugging me away from his body to meet my eyes, "Why aren't you more worried that they have your blood?" I cock my head to the right, examining his features, his eyes, forest green, blazing now, nose flaring and I lift my hand over to his chest, feeling his heart flying under my palm. "It's been ten days a bit more since you saw the video of Miguel," I say his fake name because not only is he not Miguel, he's not Breton... we just don't know who he was before. But that was another topic for another time right now, "They've had my blood for that time, I think - I've come up with a plan, I'm not sure how realistic it's going to be, but I think at this point we just have to start plucking members from their group." I keep my eyes focused on Gabriel's looking for a sign of disagreement or even just him frowning in disapproval of what I'm proposing.

"I mean - I don't know what the repercussions will be, but we have to do something," I say changing my position on him again, face to face, chest to chest, "I have a lot of work to do, but I think we need to start throwing curveballs at them," I reach behind me for the stacks of facial composites Nonno, Violet and I have drawn, over a few days, nearly thirty eight of them, "These are thirty eight that we can pick off, that will and can slow down whatever they are doing."

"Where do you want to put them?"

I sighed that was the hard part, "I hate to sit here on the island hiding and putting Logan at risk, but I think we really should read Wolf in, he has his outlaw crew. How many of those guys do you think the Elders screwed that would love to take a bite out of anyone the Elders have in their pockets?" my smile large.

"I want to do what Remy suggested, you have that land, and you said you were good with Kaden?" I say the name and Gabriel nods, his face turning pensive.

"I say we build a prison, picking people off one by one, each time we get someone, we don't kill them, we get information, hold them just incase we need them again. That book that Philip gave us, I say we just start from page one, anyone in that book one by one-" I'll have to help Logan, Gabriel thinks actually considering my plan, but his thought stops me cold and a shiver runs down my back as I stare at him with disbelieving eyes.

"No," I shake my head not even considering this option. We came here to protect ourselves, we - Gabriel couldn't go out there helping Logan collect people, that would... "The Elders would find out... then what? And not just them... you're forgetting all your other enemies? No." I said barely holding onto my calm, my arms across my chest.

        "Absolutely not!"

Pushing backwards, my back touched the edge of his desk, "I mean how - how would you feel if I said that I was going to start leaving the island to gather the Elders people?" I said with a little less heat that before watching as Gabriel's face took on a pained expression.

        His thoughts hidden. Curses!

"We have to do something Chelsea... I don't - its not that I don't have faith in Logan handling this, but I think if you go based on the names in the book and the ones you've drawn. That's nearly two hundred people already... do you really think Logan alone can gather all of them on his own? Successfully?"

With nothing but sincerity in his eyes, I could see his point, even with the teleporting, how many would Logan be able to get to before he was stopped? Faced with a trap or gave the gist of what was happening away? With Gabriel - they'd share the list reducing the changes significantly. A small smile grew on my face and I turned back to Gabriel, the horror there in his own eyes when he saw on my face alone where my thoughts were headed.

"No!" he shouted lifting me and placing me on his desk before he stood towering over me, "You will not be involved in this - No Chelsea!" he shook his head, while I cocked my head to the side, 'pot calling the kettle black?'

"We do it together," I started but he was already shaking his head, "No, what if there is a trap from the get go, what - what if they-" in his mind I could see this wasn't about being a man, or him stronger than myself, image after image of what could go wrong. Having to fight one of these people, injections rendering me unconscious because these people would not be living blindly, and scenario after another.

"Should I be offended that you have so little faith in me?" I say teasingly. His anger and reluctance vanished quickly, "No... it's just - Chelsea... I love you... we don't-" he shook his head quickly, as though I didn't know it wasn't about that, just him wanting to keep me safe.

Hoping down from his desk, I leaned forward to kiss my mate, for now I'd leave this at an impasse.
