"Halfway to Hell and Back"

Third person pov:

Y/n felt themself trip, landing on their back. They were cornered by a group of enemy soldiers.

"Fuck!" They shouted as their back hit the ground.

"Deimos! A little help?!" They desperately called out to their companion. But the gunshots that filled the room covered their cry.

Y/n knew they weren't going to see the end of this.

The grunts were too close to fire at, and Y/n's rifle was out of ammunition anyways.

They closed their eyes and held their breath.

A loud pop was heard as Y/n felt a sharp pain in their head. Another pop. Their stomach. Yet another, their chest.

They struggled to breathe. One last shot was heard.

And then they were gone.

That was two months before Y/n arrived in purgatory.

The rocky dimension wasn't pleasant in the least. Y/n saw other souls come and go, but they still remained. It seemed their judgement took longer than others' did. Most were in purgatory for a maximum of two weeks.

Purgatory changed Y/n's appearance drastically. Parts of their face and body had turned to stone, and it was harder for them to move. Y/n knew why they had come here. Having a kill count of over 200 wasn't exactly the work of an angel.

Now they sat, their body too heavy to move. They were tired. And very bored. There's was nothing to do in purgatory besides count the prisoners of hell's gateway that tried to escape. And it was lonely.

Y/n missed their comrades. Hank, Sanford, they even missed 2BDamned.

But most of all, they missed Deimos.

Deimos and Y/n were very close. They both had a fling for a while, but neither of them had the guts to make it official. They accompanied each other on missions until the day Y/n was killed. Deimos was constantly miserable after that day. His usual cheer and humor was replaced by a solemn silence. Y/n never left his mind. And neither did he leave theirs.

Deimos wished he could have at least said goodbye to them.

The mercenary looked around at the rocky plain to look for any new prisoners. Deimos had only been in purgatory a few days, but he had seen enough.

The dimension had already taken a toll on him. His body was covered in rock, the fate of many in this hellish place. He was bound by the chains that went through his body, preventing him from moving most of the time.

Continuing to scan the horizon, he noticed another soul. They were tall/short/average height, wearing (your choice of combat outfit), and had short/long/medium length hair. They too, had a body covered in rock.

They almost looked like...

Y/n?

Deimos looked again. It really was them!

He tried to yell their name, but his mouth was bound by stone. He tried to run, but another chain struck him in his stomach.

He saw a red light flash around Y/n, surrounding them.

And in a short moment they were gone, taken from him yet again.
