saturday night, you're sitting on the ledge ─ feet dangling ─ the half smoked cigarette burning the outline of your fingers like your words are burning my heart.

i pick at the tiny blue sequins that is spread all over my dress like the glitter was, in your eyes ─ when we met for the first time.

did you finally get rid of all the glitter? i'd ask you. but not a single nerve in my body could open my mouth. the words have died at the tip of my tongue.

i'm sitting right next to you, inhaling the smoke you breathe out. like i've always been ─ covering up your sins with a rose blanket.

my gut wrenches, when i hear another glass shatter from beneath the staircase. the loud bass mimicking the terrified beats of my heart.

sweat bathed bodies, grinding against each other like there's no tomorrow. the fake grins, the tequila shots, the prom king and prom queen.

i imagine it all, sliding the back of my hand across my tear stained cheeks ─ mind fogged up like a frigid winter night ─ but somehow not enough to say, you ruined prom night for me.
