Y/n pov

The walls slam shut behind me and I take in a breath of relief. I know to never trust teenage boys, no matter how familiar some of them seem to be.

All I knew is that I was in the middle of a clearing full of boys, and I didn't know where my sister was. And then I saw her in the hands of one of them. Let's say my fight instinct kicked in.

Then, after I had Ana back, my flight instinct was the one to kick in. So, I ran to the one place that was closed off from the boys, and that was beyond this wall.

That's where I am now.

I hear scraping sounds from somewhere, and I whip my head around to where the sound's coming from. Whatever is in these walls doesn't seem friendly. Maybe that's why the boys didn't want me to run in here. Maybe this was a bad idea.

I look at my surroundings, and just see large walls, rising to the heavens, covered in ivy and plants.

Ana squirms in my arms and I look down at her. That's right. I have a baby with me.

I take my knife and cut some vines off the walls and start to make a make-shift sling. I wrap Ana in it, and then tie her to my back.

"You okay back there?" I ask her.

Ana gurgles, "Yea!" And I smile. I'm not sure how devolved she is at walking and talking (as I can't remember anything), but she seems pretty good at it.

The clanking sound comes again, this time closer and seemingly more consistent. I weigh my options.

If whatever's in here is dangerous, which I assume it is based off the boys' reactions, I have three options.

Fight.

Run.

Or climb.

Fighting might be a little hard with Ana on my back and only a knife in my hand. Plus, I don't know how big or skilled these things are.

Running is a more plausible option, but how fast or big are they? There's a lot of unknown variables.

Climbing seems like the best option. I doubt that these things can climb, and if they can, it can't be very well. If I start climbing and cutting vines along the way, then they won't have anything to grab onto. And, if I can make it to the top of one of these walls, I'll have the advantage.

I just might be able to climb back into the "Glade" as that one British-blond boy called it. I'll admit, most of the boys there are pretty cute. Especially him.

So, after all my considerations, I start climbing, Ana babbling happily on my back. I shush her many times, but it doesn't seem to do any good. At least she's not crying.

The scraping sound gets louder and I turn my head as a creature turns the corner. My mouth falls open as I get my first glimpse at it. It's hideous! It's like a cross between a scorpion, spider, and... monster! I don't know how anyone could come up with something that terrible.

I shudder and pray that Ana stays quiet enough as I try to scale the last couple meters of the wall.

But, at that moment, Ana decides that something is wrong with her, and let's out a loud wail.

Fuck.

The monsters head snaps towards us and I let out a stream of profanities that Ana probably shouldn't have heard.

The monster roars and starts towards us. I, with renewed vigor, start climbing even faster.

My muscles are starting to burn and I take a quick second to look below us.

The monster is at the base of the wall, looking up at Ana and me. It snarls, before slowly climbing after us.

I quickly start pulling Ana and I up, vine by vine.

I finally reach the top of the wall and lay down, exhausted. However, I hear the scraping and clanking sounds of the monster, and that motivates me to get up to my feet and start running along the top of the wall. As I run, I see the tops of more walls, laid out in an odd pattern. In the distance, there's a rumbling, and the walls change formation. I furrow my brow. Is this a maze of some sort?

I hear a screech behind me, and I glance over the wall to see the monster slipping down a few meters on the wall.

I grin, before Ana let's out another ear-splitting shriek, followed by a loud wailing. It seems to remind the monster that we're here.

I contemplate my options.

Like last time, I could run, but where would I go once I run out of wall?

Or, I could fight.

I bit my lip, smiling a bit.

I have the high ground. I have the advantage.

I lean down, watching the monsters movement. I watch it for a minute, before silently getting out my knife.

The monsters main goal right now is to get to the top of the wall without dying. It's not paying attention to Ana or I.

I take some vine and wrap it around my wrist, trying to make it secure as possible. I swallow, praying that Ana won't make a sound.

I take a deep breath, before hovering my knife over the monster and letting go.

The knife imbeds itself in the monster with a satisfying squelch!

The monster roars in pain and I jump down from the wall, only being held up by a flimsy vine.

I pray it doesn't snap.

I drop down and kick it in the face, making it fall to the hard floor.

I hear the sound of breaking bones as the monster hits the floor.

Then, gravity takes over and swings Ana and I back to the wall. I quickly twist around so I take the blunt of the force, and cry out when I feel something snap in my chest.

Luckily, Ana doesn't get hurt.

I look down at the monster below and feel a large sense of relief when I see its unmoving body below me.

I untie my hand from the vine and quickly grab onto another. I slide down, creating some rope burn, making me hiss in pain.

When I land safely on the ground, I poke the monster with my foot, and when it doesn't move, I extract my knife from its body.

"Ew." I try to wipe the blood from it, but it seems to have stained my knife.

Ana babbles and tries to grab at the knife, "No!" I scream, much louder than necessary. I am not about to have her killed by a knife after I risked my life for her!

I sheathed my knife back into its place by my leg, and wait as the sun starts to come up.

Ana starts fussing, so I take her out of the vines that strapped her to my back, and rest her on my hip. I flinch when she snuggles into my chest and touches the thing that snapped earlier.

Like clockwork (which I guess it is), the doors start to grind open.

There, on the other side of the wall, stand the British boy, the leader that was holding Ana when I woke, the one with the crazy eyebrows, and the two that almost caught up to me yesterday.

"Well." I say to them, and watch as their eyes grow wide, "You coulda told me that there were monsters in there."
