Y/n pov

I sit on the ground by the gardens, half-watching Ana explore. I'm also half-watching Newt and the Gardeners. Even though I'm supposed to be "resting", Newt has let me out into the glade. My sole job right now is to watch Ana and make sure she doesn't get in any trouble.

I half-smile as I see Newt stand from his crouched position, and wipe sweat off his forehead. Newt has really helped Ana and I feel welcomed here. And yeah, the fact that he's cute is a bonus.

Newt notices me and waves, his small smile prominent. I wave back, smirking a bit.

Ana walks over to me, and sits down heavily. (You all know what I mean by that, right? Like how babies and toddlers just kinda collapse on the ground?)

"Mama?" She asks.

"Ana." I sigh, "I'm not not mom. We've been over this."

"But den who is?" She looks at me, wide-eyed, in a way that breaks my heart.

"I- I don't know. I'm sorry."

Ana looks at me, an adorable look of contemplation on her face. "Den you'll be my momma for now."

I smile widely, and laugh, "Okay." I lift her onto my lap, and she starts fiddling with my fingers.

"Why can't I go into da maze?" Ana asks after a while.

"Don't you remember our night in there?" I reply, "It wasn't fun, and you almost got hurt."

"You got hurt." Ana points out.

"Exactly. I got hurt so I could keep you safe, and that's something I would do a million times again if I had to."

Ana nods, looking down at her lap.

"But it's not your fault." I say, lifting her chin up so she would look at me, "I love you, okay?"

"Okay." Ana hugs me, "I love you too."

After a bit, Ana asks, "Can we go see dada?"

"I don't know who he is either." I say, shaking my head, "I'm sorry, Ana. But I'm not sure if we'll ever know our parents."

"But dada is 'ere!" Ana protests.

"What do you mean? We don't even know who dad is."

"'E's here!"

"Then show him to me." I challenge, wanting to see who she thought her 'dada' was.

Ana stands up, takes my hand, and starts to toddle about.

I sigh, and slowly start to walk after her.

Ana leads me to the garden, and I start to get a bad feeling in my stomach. Oh please don't say that you think Newt is-

"See! Dere's dada!"

Newt stands on the other end of Ana's finger, a confused look on his face.

"God," I whisper, before explaining to Newt, "I'm so sorry. She keeps saying that I'm her mom, and she said that your her dad and-"

"It's okay!" Newt laughs, "I think it's kinda adorable."

He makes eye contact with me, and I feel heat rush into my cheeks.

"And why do you think I'm your dada?" Newt crouches down in front of Ana.

"'Cause!" She says loudly, "Mommas and dadas 'ave to like each odder, and you guys like each odder!"

I blush furiously, "Yeah, but moms and dads like each other in a romantic way. We like each other in a friendship way."

Newt's eyebrows furrow, but he agreed with me by nodding his head, his lips pursed.

"No you don't!" Ana stomps her foot, "You really really like each odder in a ro-man-ic way!" Her voice is getting louder, and I look around, trying to see if anyone heard her.

"Alright, yes, I like Y/n." Newt says, "And as your dad, I think it's time for you to take a nap."

I look at him, wide-eyed, my heart rate spiking, but Newt just winked. Oh. He was just saying that to get Ana to stop screaming. So why am I disappointed?

"Fine." Ana sulked.

I lift her up into my arms and take her to the small hammocks that the boys had set up for us. The builders are in the process of building a small hut for the two of us, but it had yet to be finished. Gally estimated that it would be done at the end of the week. For now, we have two hammocks a little farther away from everyone else so that Ana wouldn't wake them if she woke up in the middle of the night.

She had been doing pretty well, but last night she woke up crying. She said she had had a bad dream. I tried to calm her down, but everything I said or did made her cry harder.

I felt terrible, as I could tell I had woken some of the boys up. Eventually, Newt came over to help me settle her down. A little while later, Ana had fallen asleep.

I apologized to Newt, but he said it was fine. I thanked him, and once he was gone, I fell asleep in my own hammock.

(Present time) I place Ana in her hammock, and slowly start to rock it back and forth. Since I hadn't gotten much sleep that night, I feel dead. (Just like I do everyday)

I'm almost dozing off when I feel someone tap me on the shoulder.

I jerk up, and see Newt standing above me with a concerned look on his face.

"Are you okay?" He asks, "You seem very tired."

"I should be asking the same for you." I point out, "You helped me with Ana last night."

Newt shrugs, "I wasn't sleeping anyway."

I raise an eyebrow, "So, you need sleep."

Newt shakes his head, "I need to be up just in case anyone needs me."

I roll my eyes, "I think the glade will be fine without you for an hour. Alby should understand that everyone needs sleep."

Newt sighs, "I'll only take a nap if you do too."

"Deal."

Newt laughs, and starts walking towards homestead.

"Wait!" I call after him, "I.... I was wondering if you wanted to stay?"

Newt looks back at me, surprise evident in his eyes; however, he smiles at me. "Why?" He asks in a playful tone.

"'Cause how will I know if you actually take a nap?" I stumble over my words.

"Fair enough." Newt limps back over to me as I crawl into my hammock. As he gets in after me, I can feel the back of my neck and tip of my ears burn.

This boy makes me feel things that are very foreign to me.

And as I drift off to sleep, Newt's arm causally slung over my waist, I realize that I like it.
