The Real World

The world started to change
Bright grins turned into forced smiles
Happy looks turned into cold glares
Beauty became the amount of products you caked your face with
'Socialising' depended all on one tiny slab, which we called our phone
Happiness became the amount of likes we got on a picture
Friends turned fake
Memories flickered out and vanished into the past
We said we shouldn't judge a book by its cover,
But isn't that what we all did?
No one found joy in the smallest things in life
No one found beauty in the simplest things
No one lived life, most just existed
And the shimmering veil that shielded the world from our eyes,
Started to slip out,
Fade away,
And that's when we saw
The real world.
