Chapter 24

Cher and Pauly got to the office in the underground headquarters. They didn't expect to see Marcus sitting in Chers desk waiting for them.

"Marcus?? What are you doing here?? I thought it would be a videoconference like always" Cher questioned

"Sit down, we have to talk" Marcus ordered, Cher obeyed but Pauly stood behind her

"Are you done handling your personal vendetta against the scorpions??" Marcus asked

"Yes sir" she replied "They actually helped me to get revenge on Bono's killer. It was actually his own wife who killed him. She happened to be working with them until they double-crossed her"

"And you offered them immunity I believe" Marcus remarked

"It won't last, I know them too well" Cher assured

"It better not, they have always been our rivals and we do not negotiate with the enemy" Marcus said then he noticed Chers ring on her finger "Oh what a surprise, you got engaged. Who's the lucky guy??"

"Woman, Kitty is the lucky woman" Cher corrected threatening as a warning not to mess with her fiancée

"I see" Marcus looked at Pauly "Well I respect that but it looks like we have to make some changes then" he said

"Changes?" Cher questioned

"Yes, Dark Lady the Palermo clan is the only clan with women as an underboss and consigliere. Luckily you have managed to keep it discreet and get the jobs done all the same. I don't know how you do nor I care but you do a good job. You know, following my orders and keeping your life balanced. Sonny Bono made a good decision in suggesting you'd be the Malibu underboss"

"That's why you're the boss" Cher said as a compliment

"Not anymore" Marcus admitted

"Excuse me??" Cher asked confused, Pauly's eyes widened

"I'm getting old and losing my touch. That comes with consequences and I'm tired of handling it. You're only 15 years younger than me but you still got game. That's why I want to ascend you as the boss of the Palermo clan in all regions" Marcus said

"What??!!!" Cher exclaimed, Marcus stared deeply at her "I'm sorry" she apologized

"I'll give you 4 months to prepare for this new position. You transfer as the new boss and Kitty will be your underboss. Although you have to be married before that. The business has to be kept in family." Marcus explained

The two women went pale, their eyes widened "Are you sure we're the right people for the job??" Cher questioned "I've made so many mistakes the last couple of weeks then ever before"

"You were obligated to but you also knew how to cover your tracks when necessary" Marcus said "I'm not asking if you want to be the boss Dark Lady. I'm telling you that you will be the boss and Kitty the underboss, understand?"

"Understand" both women said

He stood up, Cher followed "Good, that being said, as soon as you marry, you will be getting your first job. I'll pass all my work to Kitty so you both can start preparing" he said

"Of course" Pauly said turning to look at him

"Congratulations on the engagement" Marcus said before turning and leaving the room

Cher sat in her chair and sighed "This is great!! We got engaged and promoted on the same day!!" Pauly exclaimed with excitement

"Awesome, more work for the clan" Cher said sarcastically

Pauly walked around the table and sat on Chers lap, Cher put her arms around Pauly's waist "Baby, if Marcus didn't think we were capable of handling things, he wouldn't have given us the jobs" Pauly said caressing Chers hair "Besides, the boss gives out orders and hasn't have not much to do. The work is basically set for me and the soldiers"

"You make it sound so easy" Cher said

"That's because it is, besides you're already the boss of your entertainment career. You're a natural" Pauly pointed out, Cher sighed again "Plus, you're not alone. I'm gonna be by your side in every step like always" they rested their head against each other. Looking deeply into the others eyes lovingly.

"You know, sometimes I hate Marcus. We have to get married in three months?? How are we gonna plan the wedding in three months??" Cher said desperately

"With the help of our family and friends of course" Pauly said "Cher everything is gonna be ok, don't worry"

Cher took her fiancé's hand "Ok fine, I have confidence that everything will be ok. I have faith in us, we will work together" she kissed her, that being said they kept on working in each other's company until it was time for bed.

Everyone was excited for the wedding, they tried not to question how fast they were moving. Chaz and Elijah suspected something but they didn't want to ruin their moms wedding. Cher and Pauly didn't want anything big since it was a secret for now. They only invited their closest friends and family. Cher didn't want the public to know yet. There was no shame in it, just that they were in more danger if they made it public. That would alert other clans and families of their promotion. The day came, Gigi, Georgia and Chaz were with Cher on one room and Duane, Jesse and Elijah were with Pauly in another.

They were obligated by Marcus to invite some acquaintances so the gifts were black for clan members and white for non-clan members. The theme of the wedding was mascaraed so they were not recognized or put anyone in danger. Cher had her men all around doing more security than ever. The priest had to be trustworthy and knowing how to word out his part. For Pauly and Cher everything went perfect, Pauly wore a white shirt wedding gown while Cher wore a black long dress but short sleeved. The wedding went great and smoothly, no one suspected anything from both sides. Though the atmosphere was tense between Cher, Pauly and Marcus. They hoped nothing was gonna go wrong.
