Row in the deep sea

35 4 4

At the midnight of uncertainty
Sailing on the waters of despair
When the waves of anxiety
Draw me further from the shore
I come so close; yet fall back so far.

Dark clouds thunder above
Sea monsters circle my canoe below
They lie in wait for one mistake
One little stumble, they know I'll tumble
Into the gaping jaws of ill fate.

So as lightning streaks through the night
The land is nowhere in sight,
I grasp my paddle tighter
Send up a little prayer
And row a lot harder.

Over the staccato of my heart beating
I row, once sturdy arms now aching,
Each breath, heavy and gasping
I row unceasing.

I row, blindly believing
When the night gives way to light
And my canoe finally touches land
The sand and seashells beneath my feet
The seagulls circling the nearby fishing fleet
Will witness the last remnants of a night
So severe, it nearly killed my spirit inside
But hope kindled the fire to fight
When all was lost, none to be found
The will to live found a road of its own
And the early rays of the gentle dawn
Returned me to my long sought home.
