He stared at her as she stared out into the cityscape, hair blowing in the gentle wind, the ghost of a smile on her darling face, dimly lit by moonlight. "You're not unpleasant," he said. "Just misguided."

     "Why do you say?"

     "You are definitely the type of girl to stay up all night reading romance novels, asking people about their zodiac signs, and all that icky shit. You probably went up here to gaze at the stars, imagining you're with someone you love."

     "I used to go up here way before I learned all about that icky shit."

     "Why are you here, then?" Ni-ki pressed. "Do you have a death wish or something?"

     "Or something," she replied. A death wish. That sounded ironic. "Tell me, stranger. Do you always judge people so quickly?"

     He grew quiet.
