I completed my homework and put it away before Daddy turned the shower off. I was watching TV, my favorite show Punky Brewster was on. Daddy walked out of the bathroom, his pajamas on, all ready for bed.

"Got your homework done?"

"Yep."

"Where is it? Let me see it."

"It's finished and in my bag ready to turn in and get an A."

"Corinne..."

I groaned.

"Ok."

I got up and unzipped my backpack.

"I said before you started your homework that I wanna check it when you were done. Did you think I'd forget?"

"No sir."

I gave him the math worksheet. I continued to watch Punky Brewster as he checked my homework.

"You are on the right track my dear Cori, but there are one or two answers that need to be simplified."

"They didn't look like they needed to be."

"I know, well, let's take a look here."

I scooted closer to him so we could look at the work.

"Eight over twelve, that can be turned into a smaller fraction. Do you know how to simplify fractions, turn it into a smaller one?"

"Yeah, I learned it in class."

"Ok, simplify eight over twelve."

"Let me get my pencil."

I got my pencil out of my backpack and returned to Daddy.

"Eight over twelve can both be divided by four."

"Good job."

I wrote two over three down.

"Simplifies to two thirds."

"Good job Cori!"

He looked at the paper again.

"Five over ten...pay close attention to what fraction I just said."

It took me a second to realize.

"One half!"

He smiled, he gave the paper to me and let me fix it.

"Alrighty sweetie...you're done with your homework."

I put my homework back and we watch TV together.

Almost an hour later, I turned to Daddy to see him sleeping, he was on his back, looking like he fell asleep watching TV. I slowly got up, walked to the other side of the bed, turned the TV off with the remote, and gave Daddy a kiss on the cheek. As soon as I picked up my backpack, I heard a whisper.

"Cori?"

I turned around to see Daddy awake and stretching.

"What time is it?"

He looked at the clock.

"It's ten, waaay past your bedtime, come on, let's get you to bed."

He followed me out of his room to my room.
