"Excuse me... I think I know you."

In a white, red, and navy-blue two-piece Gucci top and skirt stood the most beautiful girl I had ever laid eyes on to this day. "Yo!" I yelled, a smile spreading across my face. I bent down to hug her, gripping her as tight as I could.

It had been almost a year since I last saw Lourdes. Before that, almost another year. Moving to New York with my mom at the end of my junior year of high school, I wasn't there when everything went straight to hell back in Richmond. My sister was keeping her close and keeping me informed about her as time grew on, but I didn't think I would see Lourdes any time before I went back home to Virginia that weekend.

"Myles, I knew it was you!" Lourdes squealed with excitement. "What are the odds that I'm running into you?" "Little as hell in the city. What you doing here?" I asked. She turned back and pointed to a bald, dark skin man sitting at a table in the far-left corner. "I'm here with my lawyer, Derrick, on some business." "What kinda business you got in New York?" She pulled me down to her height and whispered in my ear, "I just got signed to Velocity." "For real? Aye, congratulations, yo. I'm proud of you, Mama." She smiled up at me. "Thank you."

"How my godson?" "Oh, he's good. You gotta come see him, Myles. It's been forever. My momma would definitely love to see you." "I always did wanna smash Ms. Angela." Lourdes playfully punched my arm, smacking her teeth. "Don't start, Randall." "You always calling somebody by they middle name, yo. You really ain't changed." I laughed.

I reached over and took my food from the counter. "I gotta get this back to my mom before she go to work, but I'll make sure to call you. How long you gone be here?" "Just for the night. I'm going back to Richmond tomorrow." Lourdes replied. "Well look, I was gone surprise you, but since you already surprised me, I'll be back in Richmond on Sunday. Let's go do something." I suggested. "I got this dinner my mom planned. She invited the neighbors and all that so..." "So afterwards. I'll hit you up." She nodded with a smile, "Okay." "Aye, your number still the same?" "Yeah." "Bet." I smiled down at her.

There was a moment of silence as we stood staring at each other. I couldn't believe she was here. I longed for my friends and family often even though I had been in New York for almost four years. Seeing a familiar face made me miss home more than ever. I leaned down to hug her. "I'll see you later, a'ight?"
