Everyday for 4 months Mattheo was next to Alex holding her hand every second he could, he'd even fall asleep next to her, not that Madam Pomfrey cared. Seeing a Riddle as affectionate as Mattheo wasn't something anyone saw often.

Tom had come by occasionally to check on his brother and the girl he was watching over.

"Do you think she'll make it?" Tom asked, sitting down next to him.

"She has to, she has so much here. Me, you, the Mikealsons, Kai, hell even the professors are here for her. Sure everyone will know about the supernatural after Pancy's outburst before being kicked out but like she used to say 'We'll figure it out when the time comes'." Mattheo said looking at the still pale skinned girl.

Tom left and Kai walked in. Kai came in once a week and he'd tell her stories about what he had been up to sometimes even resite memories from when they were children after they killed their family.

Certain things would make her heart beat a little faster, like when Mattheo kissed her hand or when Rebekah rambled about her and Tom's growing relationship.

"When you wake up, I promise, we'll make Pugface and Ferret pay." Mattheo laughed at the nicknames Alex gave the two. Her heartbeat picked up a bit again while her skin darkened slightly.

*2 months later-full moon*

Not much had changed, everyone still came by Mattheo still never left her unless it was truly needed.

Umbridge was back and Mattheo couldn't wait for Alex to wake up and put the teacher no one liked in her place.

Mattheo hadn't noticed the slight fall in Alex's heartbeat.

"Mattheo?" Rebekah called out, her voice cracking.

"Yes?" he asked and Rebekah's eyes filled with tears. "Her heartbeat, its decreasing." she sobbed.

"No, no! Get Klaus!" he exclaimed.

Mattheo's mind filled with many thoughts but the one that stuck was: Was he really going to lose his mate?

Before Klaus could even get back to them Alex's heart stopped completely, Mattheo could feel it.

Tears filled the young wizards chocolate brown orbs as he cried: "Are you with me? Angel! Are you drifting away?!"

Klaus walked in and saw the scene in front of him, he just took a step back.

"I-I had hope," Mattheo muttered, holding tightly onto Alex's hand, not noticing the slight change in her figure.

Her skin was pale. Yes, but it had darkened and seemed more like a human than the skeleton she was.

"Hope is a sad thing." a sweet voice whispered, the hand in Mattheo's hugging him back.

Mattheo wiped his hand over his teary eyes and hugged Alex tightly.

(Alex pov)

"I said that I'll be there, with you, 'till the end. I don't break promises." I muttered, my throat was dry and I felt sick.

"Now about Pugface, Ferret and the teacher you whined about?" I smirked.

"Wayd'a ruin the moment Alex," Rebekah sniffled.

"Oh please, I hate it when people I care about cry!" I said to my defense.

"I thought we lost you," Kai said walking in and sitting next to me.
