jack stared at the ground.

"i'm sorry about the fairies." he apologized.

"that sucks." i agreed, not knowing what to say.

the entire mateo thing was still on my mind, but i did my best to ignore it and focus on comforting tooth, who needed it the most.

"you should've seen them. they put up such a fight." tooth looked at the rippling water.

"why would pitch take the teeth?" jack questioned.

"it's not the teeth he wanted. it's the memories inside them."

"what do you mean?"

"that's why we collect the teeth, jack. they hold the most important memories of childhood."

she flew over the water. i floated next to jack, who just walked over the water. it froze under him.

"my fairies and i watch over them. and when someone needs to remember what's important, we help them." tooth looked up at the painted mural. "we had everyone's here. yours, too."

we both looked up, curious.

"i- my memories?" jack stammered.

"from when you were young. before you became jack frost. there's one for you too, flora." tooth told us.
