The moment Eden managed to convince Nick to go back home she sat on the stairs for an hour, wondering what to do. She didn't want Ethan to see her so miserable. She then remembered that Michael had offered her to go with him, she took a decision she might regret later, but that was what she thought was right. The best thing to do is be done with the Millers even if it breaks her heart to leave Nick. She feared that whatever reason that made Jessica tell her that she was related to nick will remain even if they are not related. The best thing to do was to just go away.
She dialed Michael's number, he didn't pick up at first but the second time he did.
She first sniffled and tried her best to mask the sadness in her voice. "Hey you"
"Eden! Hi" He answered, Eden could feel that he was surprised to see her call, "I'm sorry for how we left things the last time." She wasn't in the mood to beat around the bush.
"Uh yeah. It's- uh Thanks. It's okay" He didn't know if he should say thank you or say it's okay when it clearly wasn't and he didn't know why she was suddenly calling him.
"It's not okay. I said some pretty bad things " Eden said, wiping the tear that escaped her.
"Are you okay?" Michael got worried from how she sounded. As hard as she tried to hide the fact that she was crying, he could sense that something was wrong. Her voice was breaking.
"Yes. It's just-" she paused to take a deep breath. "It's just that I feel bad for how we ended things last time and I- I wanted to say I'm sorry. I shouldn't have used you like that." She held the phone on the chest to muffle the sounds of her cries. She put the phone back on her ear and heard Michael sigh.
"Eden, I encouraged you to use me knowing very well you had feelings for another guy. So if anyone should be apologizing here it's me. For manipulating you-"
She laughed at how nice he still was even after being rejected. " You're really nice, you know that, right?" She asked and he laughed but it was a sad laugh. " It didn't help getting the girl"
"I'm sorry"
"No, no I didn't say that to make you feel bad. Really, Eden. Like you said, the heart wants what it wants and sadly it wasn't me and please don't feel sorry for me. Please." He tried to explain that he didn't hold any grudge against her and that made Eden's heart hurt even more. She felt stupid, she had to fall for a guy she couldn't be with. The universe had a way of punishing her.
"Thank you Michael. I wish you to meet a girl that is going to care for you and love you so much because you deserve it."
"Thank you Eden. And I wish you all the happiness in the world even if it's with that idiot." He said, and she laughed. She didn't want to worry him by telling him what she had just found out. Looks like she was not meant to be happy. She took a deep breath and sighed.
"You know, you can tell me anything right? And my offer still stands, if he hurt you-"
"No, I'm fine and yes I know. Don't worry about it. Maybe I'll come visit when you have settled down." She assured.
"Yes, that would be good too." He said with a sad voice. She decided not to follow him, after talking to him, she couldn't go with him and lead him on again. He was so dear to her for her to play with his feelings one more time.
She decided to go somewhere else away from Miller and Michael. The money she had put aside for her culinary school, she was going to use that for a new life somewhere where nobody new her.
"It was nice talking to you Michael. Tell me when you land." She smiled feeling a weight being lifted off of her shoulders. At least she was keeping a good friendship with Michael and she was going to cherish it.
"You too Eden. I will.. good night"He said and hang up.
She had a lot of planning to do for the next few days. The first was to make Nick believe that she had already left the city while she got ready to actually leave.
She hoped her plan would work.
