Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, who wrote under the pen name 'Ghalib' is one of the most quotable Urdu poets whose sher or couplets relate with almost all situations of life.
His words on love, loss and life continue to enlighten us and calm our soul.
Hi...
[It was not in my destiny to unite with my beloved. Had I kept on living (if I hadn't died on the day you left me), there would have been this same waiting.]
[Don't deceive yourself by thinking that your promise made me live. I'd have died of happiness had I believed in your promise.]
[From your daintiness/ delicacy I understood the frailty of your vow (promise). You couldn't have broken it if it was strong.]
[Someone should ask my heart about the pain inflicted by a half drawn arrow. If the arrow was fully drawn and had passed his heart (he would have been dead), he would not have felt this sweet pain.]
[ What kind of friendship is this that all my friends have become advisors. Someone should have tried to heal me (lessen my pain), someone should have shared my sorrows]
[Blood would have endlessly oozed from the veins of stone If what we are thinking of as grief was a spark of fire]
[Although this sorrow's fatal but it can not be avoided as I have a heart If I was not troubled by the sorrows of love, I would have been dealing with the problems of day to day living.
[To whom should I say that this night of sorrow is a curse. I don't mind dying if it happens once ( these nights of separation from you is like dying every night)]
[The shame I endured after death, why did I not drown in the sea? There would have been no funeral, nor a grave to be seen.]
[How can anyone see him(The Creator/ God) as he is unique, unprecedented, unmatchable. If there was even a hint of duality( that there was more than one Creator) I would have found myself face to face with him somewhere.]
[Oh Ghalib, your declarations/ philosophy on mysticism (the issues in Sufism) People would have considered you a saint/ a preacher, if you had not been a wine drinker.]

ye masail-e-tasawwuf ye tera bayan 'ghaalib' tujhe hum wali samajhte jo na baada-khwar hota
