His dark eyes took me in, and I wondered what they would look like if he fell in love. ~F. Scott Fitzgerald

"You little piece of shit" he roared and lifted me up by my hair in a painful grip. My scalp screamed in pain from all the abuse it went through.

"You dare disobey me" he smashed my face into the nearby grey, dirty, bloody wall and I bit my lips to stop my scream.

I wouldn't show him what he wants. I won't give him the satisfaction of breaking me. I am unbroken. How could anyone break an already broken heart? That broken heart will always remain unbreakable because it's already shattered.

"I fucking told you to kill that man in front of the people of Azure and what did you do? You bitch! You couldn't even complete one job that was given to you. You're a shame. You could never be the heir to my throne." My father said and slapped me one last time making me fall towards the ground.

"Rot in here. You unworthy piece of shit!" and with that, he smashed the dungeon doors and went outside.

I sighed in contentment, thinking at least I didn't get blood on my hands. At least I didn't become a monster like my father and uncle. At least I am not a sinner.

If only I knew it was just a miserable lie.

I was their blood and I became one of them.

A sinner.

A murderer.

A criminal.

A monster.

I was just finished with my pie and went towards to kitchen to put the plates in the washer.

"It's fine, I'll do it," Maria said but I told her that it's okay, I can do it and started to wash them.

She was cleaning the kitchen when my eyes went to look at her. She looked kind of familiar to me but I couldn't remember meeting her ever. Every time she looked at me, she didn't have the curiosity in her eyes as expected but instead, it was as if she knew about me, she knew even about the things I was unaware of, which was strange. I've never trusted anyone in my life and I also intend not to trust her but she just looks so pure, motherly, and is such a caring person that I can't think about anything causing harm to her.

Another knock came and Damien entered the house with a few towels. His amber eyes met mine and there was an unusual glow in them. He surprising wasn't as disgusted by me as he was when we first met. I wonder what changed.

"Maria, I bought the towels you asked" Damien called for her as he kept them on the nearby table.

"Dami, I am making pie for you guys as well. Wait until it's done." She said from the kitchen to which he responded with an okay and went towards one of the open windows and stared into the woods.
