James Francis Edward Stuart, "The Old Pretender" and son of James VII, grew up in France. He got recognized by King Louis XIV of France. The "Sun King" acknowledged him as the rightful heir to the thrones of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
This all laid the foundation of the next three crucial events in Scottish history: The Jacobite rebellions of 1715-, 19-, and 45. The most important one was the "Forty-five," which is why I'll just briefly explain the first two.
