Two months later

"We will not listen to a woman." My father yelled from across the table. Nevaeh stared blankly.
It's like there's no life left in her.

She was a Queen without her King.

I heard Octavius scoff. Octavius has never liked my father or my uncles. "And that's supposed to be my problem?" Nevaeh leaned back in her chair.

I looked back at my father. He looked quite stunned. He thinks Nevaeh is weak.

She became deadly. Nevaeh became the villain.

And for a woman who has lost her soul and the ability to care to be able to feel, she became dangerous.

Her eyes are almost black, not the blue they used to be.

The Nevaeh I knew is gone. And I pray to God that this baby can save her.

When Ezra died, I watched my best friend die with him. He took a piece of her when he left.

"You're just a woman! You can't run a Mafia." This caught Nevaeh's attention. "You were just Ezra's pathetic—" I watched Nevaeh quickly throw a dagger.

My father screamed out in pain, not wanting to touch the dagger that was sticking out of his eyes.

Oh fuck

His screams filled the room

His screams filled the room. I gripped his jaw, trying to get it to face me. "Say it." I ordered him. I want him to finish his sentence.

Blood dripped down his face. I watch the rest of the men grow pale from fear. I tightened my grip, hard enough to leave a mark.

"You heard me. Say it!" My voice boomed off the dark walls of the office. "Are you too weak to speak?" I grind seeing the pain and fear in his eye.

Riccardo stayed silent. My chuckle came out low. "The only weak one in this room" I paused, wrapping my free hand around my dagger.

My soulless eyes met his before I ripped my dagger out of his eye socket. "Is you." I said, shoving his head away.

Riccardo continued to scream out in pain as he held his hand over his eye. I looked back at the guys before ordering. "We're done here." I said, walking out of the office and making my way through the warehouse.

I kept my eyes straight, not bothering anyone with a glance. I've gotten used to the stares and whispers I get any time I enter the warehouse.

The whispers are usually men saying cat calls under their breath or

"How long do you think she'll last?"

"Is it true she's leading the mafia by herself?"

"I feel sorry for her."

"Do you think she even loved him?"

At this point, I just ignore it. I ignore everything.
The only thing I don't ignore is Max. He needs me, so I'll be there for him.

I don't regret what I did. That bastard deserved it. Riccardo has been pushing my buttons since I took over the Mafia.

I exited the warehouse, getting in my car.

I watch as the trees go by as I continue driving.
The world looks different without him. It feels different.

Everything is just different, and I don't know how to explain it to people. I tried to talk to Kate about it, but that didn't turn out so well.

Flashback

"I just—I don't know Kate!" I say as I grow more frustrated with her and with myself.

"At this point, you are just asking for attention." I paused, looking up at her.

Excuse me?

"Everyone is trying to help you, but you just keep pushing them away." She threw her hands in the air as she got up from the bed, making her way to the door.

I stood up, strutting towards her, before grabbing a fist full of her hair and pulling her down. She screamed as my fist collided with her face.

I shoved her away. "You're a piece of sht, do you know that?" I shout, pointing my fingers at her.

"It's been a month and a half since I lost my love of my life! Is this what you want? For me to hate you? I've tried so fucking hard, Kate. All I have ever wanted was for you to love me."

Damn, I never understood why pregnant women get so mad until now.

I watch her eyes begin to well up with tears.
"What are you going to do, fucking cry? That's my job." I say it coldly. Kate just stayed silent.

"Get the hell out." I point at my bedroom door. She looked as though she were frozen or just shocked.

"Kate, if you don't get the fuck out of my room right now, I will fucking kill you." Then she left.

Flashback ended

I think the only emotions I can feel are sadness and anger. I wasn't in my happy senses that day.

But I need to be better, not just for myself but

Xena Marie King.
