I sit there, stunned. What just happened?
One second I thought he was gonna kiss me and the next he was... Walking away? This doesn't seem right. I get up and chase after him.
"Ben! Ben, wait up!" I call out, running to catch up. He's faster than I thought he would be. Finally I reach him and ask, "What was that?!"
"What?" he replies innocently, like nothing happened.
"You were going to kiss me!"
"No, I wasn't."
"Then...?"
"I made you think I was gonna kiss you, but I was never going to. In fact, I never even liked you! This whole thing was a prank. April Fools, ya know? I can't believe you didn't catch on sooner. Wow. You're so pathetic."
By now, I've started to cry. I don't want to, though. I don't want him to see me as something weak and powerless. But I can't help it. He's such a jerk! And he's right-I can't believe I didn't catch on sooner.
