Chapter 28 pt. i

Ok, I've decided to carry on this book for a bit longer - I can't finish it now.

"Excuse me?" Grayson says. The muffled sounds through the phone suggests my statement has him moving around.

"I said I know where Mangold is."

"How could you possibly know where he is?" Grayson asks sounding a little more alert.

"He said something. At the time I thought nothing of it. Then I remembered something the boy in the Exile dwellings said and it all makes sense."

"What makes sense? Elle you've lost me."

"Everything. Mikay mentioned mutual protection with some ally."

"That doesn't necessarily mean its Mangold Elle."

"Who else? What other ally could there possibly be that protects them? Mangold said he has connections with the Exiles. There is no other explanation."

Grayson sighs and doesn't answer me. I lean my head back against the pillow, as I realise the lack of trust between us is still ever so present. We're both silent. I'm waiting for him to say something and I assume he is waiting for me to retract my statement. After a good two minutes of soft breathing and an absence of verbal contact, I feel my earlier panic has simply disintegrated. A ghost of all negativity.

"Believe me."

Grayson groans. "I do."

"Then why haven't you said anything?"

"I don't know. My solution is to fly in tomorrow. I just didn't want to end the call."

"Oh." My cheeks dust with pink.

"Oh?"

"Oh."

"How are you?"

"Quite honestly I'm tired." I smile. "But I'm happy. Everything at work and at home is keeping me on my toes but I enjoy having something to do. Bree and Max are having a baby."
