It was strange this human world. W-what even happened to me. The last thing I remember was being a simple chick with two other siblings, a providing mother, and a father. It was a nice life in the zoo, as ordinary Secretary birds.
When one day I woke up to notice that I suddenly left different. I had suddenly changed, I had human hands and I was double the size of my siblings overnight. I was able to stand up perfectly out of nowhere, and I could somewhat understand the human symbols.
My parents didn't know what was happening, but they took care of me nonetheless. Or at least tried to, brooding was very difficult when their baby suddenly was as big as they were.
When the humans in charge of the Zoo noticed me, eventually they took me away, they talked amongst themselves about how I was "another one". With little to no explanation, my life was drastically changed. I was suddenly given to another set of parents and was sent into a world of humans.
Even though I became intelligent human-wise, not many of my traits were human. on top of that, I had a hard time understanding being human. There were so many things I had to understand about humans and their strange rules. Like money, jobs, and clothes. Shoes were the worst of it, they never had ones made for my bird feet, and simply gave me regular human shoes. The standard ones hurt to wear, yet nothing was really down about it. So I was outcasted by the other kids, as I walked around barefoot. I never felt so alone.

"Miss Y/n, we have been over this. Shoes are a part of the dress code, shoes on," The teacher scolded.
The classmates snickered as Y/n looked around for their shoes, but they were missing. Tokoyami scoffed at his other classmates as one of them hide the shoes. So before the bully could get away, Tokoyami stepped in.
After some searching around the school, he eventually found them on the roof. Their wings were or arms spread out as the winds tickled their feathers. They looked so elegant as the sun gave their beautiful feather a heavenly glow.
"U-um, You're shoes," Tokoyami said suddenly.
Y/n yelped as they were about to fall when a shadow caught them. They turned to see it was one other bird person in their class.
"Sorry, I guess I shouldn't have sneaked up on you," Tokoyami said as dark shadow gently placed them down.
"I-It's fine. Thank you for catching me, but I could have fluttered down," Y/n said as they grabbed the shoes.
"You can fly?" Tokoyami asked.
"Yeah, but I'm not allowed to by human law," Y/n scoffed.
"Are you... Or were you once a bird too?" Tokoyami
"Yeah, but now I'm...This," Y/n said pointing to themselves. "Some say I am a mutant monster thing, while my human parents and adults say I'm human now, and that I should start acting like. Yet I don't feel human. "
"I see," Tokyami said simply.
"I guess I should get going, sorry for rambling off to you. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't understand," Y/n said as they prepared to walk away.
"No, I somewhat understand. I was born an ordinary bird, but after that my quick came. My world changed so suddenly, so much of me changed. So I can understand your struggles," Tokoyami said. " Having to suddenly adjust to human life and understand them. It's hard."
Y/n smiled gently as Tokoyami looked away bashfully. " S-so. If you're not busy, could you walk me to the train station?" Y/n asked.
"I, I um-"
"He would do it," said the shadowy figure.
"D-Dark shadow!?" Tokoyami stuttered.
"You've been side-eyeing them for a whole semester, it's really annoying," The bird shadow said.
Y/n giggled, causing Tokoyami's cheeks to turn light pink. The two walked together, talked about bird things, and...Darkness. Yet Y/n was just happy to find someone who could in a relate to them.
