I shouldn't have done it, but I couldn't help it.
Knowing what I knew about her background, I'd needed to do something, some small thing for her. So I'd had one of my boys follow her around the auction tables to see what things she liked and bid on them. Then I'd gone to bid on the trip to Hawaii for her friend because Harper truly wanted them to have the honeymoon they deserved.
That done, evening over, I knew I needed to pull away from her. She had marriage, a houseful of children and white picket fences practically tattooed on her forehead.
That was not in my future. I couldn't give her what she wanted, so I had to stop indulging my desire to be around her.
