Chapter VIII
Saved By The MarkThe punishment day came. My hands and feet were tied with papyrus ropes at the four corners of a cold, rectangular boulder, making sure I wouldn't get away.
No matter how much I jerked my arms or legs, it would just end up having my skin bruised. I did it earlier and my wrists and ankles were probably red by now. So in the end, I decided to refrain from moving and just accept this tragic fate of mine.
Sighing, I stared at the ceiling. A trickle of tears escaped from my eyes as I recalled my last conversation with Grandma and Harper and even the first and probably last friendly date I had with Aharon. I miss them so much.
I'm sorry, Grandma, if I won't be able to give you grandkids any longer.
I'm sorry, Harper, if I broke my promise to be careful and now, you will never have a niece or a nephew that's as cute as I am.
I'm sorry, Aharon, but I guess you no longer have a reason to visit our homeland since at the end of this day, I can't bear kids anymore and being a godfather of my children will be impossible now for you.
As I whispered my sentiments to the air, I couldn't help but cry again.
"Just kill me, please," I sobbed. "I'd rather die!" I don't think I can even survive a day for the pain that I'll suffer after this! I don't deserve this! I'm more innocent than any young ladies out there, so why does this have to happen to me?
With dry tears, my eyes gazed at my surroundings. There were maids assisting the man who would mutilate my genital. Although he looked professional in this kind of thing, it wouldn't change the fact that it would still hurt so much.
Ah, and he's a freakin' guy. Should I even elaborate that?
I shifted my gaze to the side where the Pharaoh, King Khufu, was reclining on his throne. He looked so relaxed despite the dilemma I was in right now. Curse him! I can't believe he's even Khnum Khufu—one of the great Pharaohs I admired!
He used to be so cool when I learned that he was the one who owned the biggest, tallest pyramid that up until in the present times, it is still erected at the outskirts of Cairo. Yet now... I just want to rip his head off and escape out of here.
After a few minutes, the man stood beside the boulder and stuffed my mouth with a cloth. My body trembled in fear. I thought I had already cried all the tears earlier but now I was crying again.
With a knife, the man ripped off my thin tunic and I muffled a scream. A jolt of fear streamed down my veins. I struggled and banged my body against the surface. But to no avail, I couldn't escape. He threw the strips of cloth on the ground, leaving me fully naked. The violent whiff of the air embraced my nudity. I smothered sobs.
"Stop..." I cried. "Please."
My attention focused on the knife that the man was holding. Its cold, sharp edge crawled on my leg up to my thigh, tingling my toes in terror. He aimed the knife at my center, ready to have it slashed, so I shut my eyes to prepare for the horrible pain.
But seconds later, I felt nothing. Not even a tip of the knife landed on my skin, much less on my core. I opened my eyes and gasped.
Khufu was behind the man. His hand was gripping the man's wrist that had the knife dropping on the ground. "Your Majesty!"
"I said untie her and hand her to the maids to change clothes," he spoke with a hint of authority.
The man paled. Once he withdrew his wrist on him, the man instantly bowed down twice and said he would do it quickly.
