Once Rain hung up the phone and grabbed a mid-drift hoodie, a pair of skinny jeans, and a pair of her favorite Chucks out the closet. After changing into the clothes and patting Nala on the head, she left her house and drove to Richmond on Broad.
Ten minutes later, she arrived at her destination and parked in the parking lot a few blocks down from the restaurant. Since it was lunchtime, the parking was kind of scarce, so she had to get the first spot she saw.
Walking into the cafe, she noticed a lunch line of people and headed around them to the dine-in area. She sees Kendra in the corner with her back to her on her computer. She walks over to the area and sits down beside her scaring her.
"Fuck woman! Don't scare me like that. I almost punched you right in the face." Kendra grabbed her chest trying to calm herself.
Rain laughs, "My fault. Didn't mean to scare you. What are you working on?"
"Trying to get this resume in order. I think it's almost completed."
"Shhh." An old lady said towards Kendra, who was a little louder than normal.
Kendra had always been loud for as long as Rain had known her. Rain just chalked it up to be a southern thing and paid it no mind. However, that didn't mean everyone else reacted the same way.
"Don't shush me. You don't know me like that. We ain't even that loud. Do your work and mind your business. Rude self."
"Kendra!" Rain said in shock.
"What? I can't stand an old rude bitch who acts like someone is bothering them. Bet her ass can't even hear what we saying. She just wants to be an ass."
"Best, it ain't even that serious. Let's just get something to eat, work on your resume, and get out here. I have had a long day and ain't in the mood to deal with ignorance."
"What's wrong best friend? Who ass I gotta beat?" Kendra asked still as loud as before and Rain shook her head knowing what was about to happen next.
"Shhh." The old lady said again.
"Old bitch, you got but one more time to shush me, before I get up and snatch your damn wig off. Now shush me again! I dare you. Watch your old ass be on the internet by the end of the night."
"Excuse me?"
"You're excused. Now interrupt me one more time. As I was saying, who ass I gotta beat?" She looked at the old lady and dared her to say something else. The lady just got up and walks out of the area and Rain shakes her head at her best friend's foolishness. "That's right, leave. Ain't no one want you in here in the first place."
"I can't take your ass anywhere, I swear."
"Yes, you can. It ain't never a dull moment when I am around. I am the life of the party bitch and you know this. Now, tell me what happened today."
Rain exhales loudly, "How about I go order our food and when I come back, I'll tell you?"
"Deal. Here is my card. I want a turkey and cheese sandwich, some of their soup of the day, and a Coke." Kendra hands Rain her credit card out of her wallet.
"Okay, I got you. I'll be right back." She goes up to the area to order and waits in line behind a few people.
While in line, Rain looks down at her phone and checks her email and Instagram. Not paying attention to who is around her, she feels a tap on her shoulder and a voice she knows all too well says, "Rain, is that you?"
Not even making eye contact, she takes a deep breath and looks up at the ceiling. "Not today Satan. Lord, what did I do to deserve a day like today?"
"Still as big of a drama queen as always, I see." The person replied with a laugh.
