Chapter 18: change.

"We're dancing 'round the kitchen in the refrigerator light."

━━━━━━♡♥♡━━━━━━

The New Year passed by, and it's now the second week of January, a stressful week for Mayari and Harry. May is busy because she has a lot of customers every day, whereas Harry is busy because he always has meetings, which is extremely important now that Valentine's Day is approaching.

Today is Saturday, and May has decided to take a day off from work to recover after a long and hectic week. As she walked down the stairs, she came to a halt at the final step when she smelled a pancake.

She took her phone from her pocket and looked at the time, which was 7:30 a.m. Her brow furrowed as she saw the time and pocketed her phone; by this time, Harry had probably already left for work and was on his way to May's to buy his usual food and coffee.

Mayari moved closer to the kitchen and spotted Harry, who was wearing a white t-shirt, grey sweatpants, and an apron and had been making pancakes. On the island table, there are two coffees and a plate with three pancakes in the center.

"Harry," Mayari called, making Harry jump and turn his attention to her, flashing a smile but the women remained expressionless. "What are you doing in here? You'll be late for work."

"I don't have work today; I'm on leave," Harry replied, setting the freshly baked pancake on the plate at the island table. "After this, we're going somewhere," he spoke as he came closer to her and wrapped his arm around her waist, "now, darling, let's eat breakfast."

"Where are we going?" May said as Harry held the seat for her. While she waited for an answer, she saw him sitting across from her. Instead of responding, he placed a pancake on her plate and drizzled honey on top. "Harry," her voice was full of caution, and he cleared his throat before answering.

"Grocery," he responded, pouring honey on his pancake. "I heard you on the phone with Celine last night; you told her you won't be coming to work today because you want to buy food because our stock is only good for three days; besides, both of us have been busy with work for the past two weeks, don't you think?"

"Your point?"

"I just want to spend time with you."

Those comments silenced her; she had never expected to hear those words from him. It never occurred to her after three years of marriage that she would hear those words from her spouse. She was taken aback and had no idea how to react or respond to it. He wanted to spend time with her.

"Are you okay, darling?" Harry inquires quietly, noticing May's unusually quiet demeanor. "Would you like something else for breakfast?"

"Oh, I'm alright," May responds promptly, slicing her pancakes. "I don't need anything else; pancakes are enough for me."

Harry simply nodded and said a soft 'okay,' and they ate their meal quietly until his phone buzzed. He glanced at May, who was busy with her pancakes, and his gaze landed on his phone to see a message from his twin sister Thalia, as he slid her message his gaze landed on his wallpaper—-a picture of Mayari smiling with a jasmine flower placed on the side of her hair, this picture was taken by him while they were at the beach, and he can't help but smile, she simply look enthralling to look away.
