Elijah's POV

"Mom, it's my husband's birthday. It should be me who greets him first. Why are you even here this late? Just go back mom, you can greet him tomorrow." I whisper so that Sidney and the babies won't get disturbed in their sleep.

"Doesn't matter, Eli. Before anything or anyone I was the first person who seen him and liked him. I'll also be the first person to greet him on his first birthday with us." Mom argues with me.

"Mom! This is too much." I almost yell out which makes Sidney stir a little but he actually don't wake up, "please mom, try and understand. Won't Sidney be happy when I greet him happy birthday at 12 o'clock and be the first person? He loves me, mom and when I greet him he'll feel happy."

"He likes me too and I'm not leaving. I'll be the first person to greet son in law." She counters and I close my eyes before I sigh out.

It was past 11:50 and suddenly I heard my phone beeping. Thinking who would have messaged me this late, I saw the screen to see my mom's name flashing and asking me to open the door immediately. Thought maybe something is urgent, I open the door for her and then she walks in and sits on the bed. And when I asked her what she was doing, she said she's here to greet Sidney happy birthday. Like what the hell? She messaged me and came into our room to greet my husband. Can't she greet tomorrow morning? I've been sitting here and waiting for the clock to hit 12 so that I can wake him up and be the first person to greet him but she came and ruined my plan. And guess what? She don't even want to go. She's so stubborn and want to be the first person.

"Awe! My son is law is so cute, he looks like an angel while sleeping, right Eli?" Mom coos and I give her a frown when she looks at me.

Shrugging off, she turns back to Sidney and watches him sleeping.

"Mom, please go back to your room. None of us are waking him up and greeting him tonight. Just go, we all will greet him tomorrow morning at the breakfast table." I tell her, hoping she leaves so that I can greet him after sending her off.

Only two minutes left until 12.

"Eli, if you're sleepy or something just go and sleep in other bedroom. We have many rooms, right. But I'm not leaving until I greet my son in law. It's his first birthday here, I want him to remember it for life long." She rather tells me to leave my husband and that she'll stay here.

Really my mom is my enemy.

Before I could say her anything, we hear a cry and I look at the babies bed side to see Sky woke up and trying to sit on the bed. His constant movements and little whines wakes up River as well. Mom and I get up from the bed and go to them before we carry them. We check if they need change of diaper but that seems fine. Thinking maybe they're hungry, we offer them milk but they don't drink. River is silent but Sky is whining a little for reasons I don't know.

"Eli, what's wrong?" This time I hear another voice and turn back to see Sidney walking towards us while rubbing his eyes, "did the babies wake up?"

Seeing Sidney, Sky fidgets in my hands so I set him down. He stumbles his steps as he walks to Sidney and Sidney catches shin midway before carrying him.

"Mama.." Sky calls out and hugs Sidney while Sidney just rubs his back.

"Mom in law, you're here?" Sidney calls out shocked when he finally sees mom.

"Oh, yes, son in law. Since today is your birthday, I came here to greet you. Happy Birthday, son in law." Mom greets Sidney while walking to him and kissing him on his forehead.

"Thank you, mom in law." Sidney thanks her with a smile, "but you shouldn't have taken the trouble. You could have greeted me tomorrow. Why ruin your sleep?"

"Oh! It's no trouble! I'm so excited about your birthday that I couldn't even sleep." She smiles while waving her hand, "then I'll get going now and sleep. You too sleep well and look pretty for the party tomorrow."

Saying that, she puts River back on the end who is now sleeping and covers him before she leaves our room. I watch her go with a frown and lock the door before walking towards the bed. As Sky also, apparently, fell asleep, Sidney places him on the bed and gets back to bed. He hops on the bed and sits next to me.

"What happened, Eli? You can't sleep?" He asks me while yawning as he rests his head on my shoulder and place his hand on my abdomen.

"How can I sleep? All my plans are wasted. Firstly mom came and was so stubborn saying she wants to greet you first. I didn't sleep and was waiting for 12 so that I'll be the first person to greet you but she ruined it. And then Sky and River woke up as well. I don't know if it's some telepathy or something but Sky has to be the first person who talks to you and hugs you on your birthday. And that little rascal slept immediately after that, apparently. During our trip it was Liam and here it's mom and the babies. No one understands that as your husband I would like to be that person who does everything for you first." I let out in frustration.

"Eli," he calls my name softly and makes me turn to him, "why are you getting so worked up? It's just a birthday greeting and no matter who greets me first or how many people greets me, I'll be the most happiest when I receive greetings from you. And if you're thinking others are becoming hindrance between us, I say what you're thinking is wrong. Mom is law is quite excited about my birthday, she sees me as her son as well so that's understandable. And how long do you think she'll be able to do that? For the next one or two years after that she'll not be this excited. As for the babies, sure they take a lot of my time but as parents, isn't it our duty to look after them? Once they start growing up and start doing their things on their own, we'll miss all this, Eli. Once they start focusing on themselves, they're not going to disturb us anymore. So, don't take unnecessary thoughts into consideration."

Hearing his words makes me understand how true it is and feels better. Since it's still new, everyone is excited about everything related to Sidney. Once he becomes well versed with us, everyone will get back to their own selves and I can have my husband for myself. That's how it's going to be. So, it's better I shut all the unnecessary thoughts and enjoy the birthday instead of being sappy.

"You're right, Sidney" I agree with a smile.

"I'm always right." He says proudly, "also don't get jealous. Mom in law and the babies have the right because they're the first ones who liked me."

He teases me so I grab his waist and pull him to me. His teasing stops and he watches at me nervously while I give him a strong stare.

"They might be the first people who liked you but I'm the one that loves you. Loves you more than anyone, even more than myself. I might fell in love with you late but I fell harder than anyone." I tell him with a smirk, my voice hoarse and stern which makes him gulp down, "happy birthday Sidney!"

I greet him before attacking his lips with mine. I press my lips hard against his and gently suck on them. He's still not as good as me but he reacts and kisses me back. Bringing my other hand to him, I lift him up and make him sit on my lap. He wraps his hands around my neck in a tight lock without separating our kiss. Taking it further, I let one of my hand enter inside his lose tee, or rather my tee which he wore and wander my hand all around his small back while giving a gentle bite on his lips resulting in him open his lips. I thrust my tongue into his mouth which makes him grab my hair in a tight trip while letting out small moans. Even if the world is going to stop, we couldn't stop ourselves as we fall back on the bed and have our time for the rest of the night.

Though I'm not the one who greeted him first, I'm the one that's going to make his special day so memorable for him.
