Akane's POV
The next day, I was flipping through some documents related to Toman when I overheard Takemichi and Naoto's conversation.
"Naoto, at this point, should we just tell past Hina about the future?" Takemichi asked, sounding exasperated.
I shook my head immediately. "Denied."
"Takemichi-kun, are you just trying to phone it in?" Naoto added, frowning. "What are you going to do if my sister thinks you've gone completely crazy?"
"Are you stupid?" I chimed in, not even bothering to look up from the papers. "People don't just believe in time travel. It's not something you casually bring up in conversation."
Takemichi let out a groan, rubbing the back of his head. "But it's not like we're left with many options..."
Naoto sighed. "I only believed in you because I happened to be into occult stuff back then," he admitted, leaning back in his chair.
"Yeah, Naoto, you were really sharp about it," I agreed, glancing at him. "Anyway, Takemichi, did you really need to ask a question that dumb?"
Takemichi threw his hands up in frustration. "Did you have to call me stupid, Akane?"
I just smiled, enjoying his flustered expression. "Yes. Yes, I did."
Takemichi groaned, slumping into the nearest chair. "So, we're back to square one, huh?" Naoto nodded. "In the end, the only way to save my sister is to go back to the past and change Toman's future."
I flipped another page of the document. "That's quite the task. Good luck with that."
"If only Draken were alive..." Takemichi mumbled under his breath. "Are you talking about Ryuguji Ken?" Naoto asked, already pulling up something on his laptop.
Takemichi perked up. "Yeah! Did you find anything about him?"
Naoto nodded, turning the screen so we could see. "Here's the newspaper article from that time."
We all leaned in to take a look.
"On August 5th, 2012, there was a massive brawl at Musashi Shrine in Shibuya," Naoto read aloud. "During the fight between 50 members of a Bosozoku gang, a high schooler was stabbed in the abdomen and died."
"Yeah, I've read about that online. People were saying it was an internal fight between Mikey's faction and Draken's faction," I explained, still scrolling through the article.
Takemichi's eyes widened in disbelief. "Wait, what?! There's no way Mikey and Draken would fight each other. That's impossible!"
I raised an eyebrow at him. "Power struggles happen all the time in gangs. It's not exactly rare."
Takemichi shook his head adamantly. "No, no, no. Draken knows Mikey better than anyone! He wouldn't fight with him—there's gotta be someone else pulling the strings."
"Well, whether they fought or not, the mission is clear," Naoto said, bringing the focus back. "This time, you need to find out who's trying to kill Ryuguji Ken and save him."
Takemichi's eyes lit up determined. "I can do that. I'll save Draken—and everyone else!"
Naoto extended his hand, and Takemichi shook. I leaned back, folding my arms. "Let's hope that's enough."
In The past
"Akane, do you understand?!" my brother asked sternly, eyes fixed on me.
"Yes, I do," I replied, looking down at my hair. It was back to its original color, and I couldn't help but smirk. "What are you grinning for?" he asked suspiciously.
