I woke up the next morning to birds chirping by the window. I checked the clock and it was 7:06 am. I didn't feel like waking up, but I had to because of school. I got up and dressed into the most basic outfit ever, a plain shirt and jeans, and maybe a sweatshirt. I headed down the stairs and saw my mom serving pancakes to my brother.

"Good morning!" my mom said cheerfully.

"You seem happy today," I assumed. "How was your date?"

She smiled widely. "It was lovely! Thanks for asking."

I sat down next to Alan by the counter. Mom handed me a plate with pancakes with chopped butter on the side.

"Thanks," I said.

"No problem," she replied. "How is it?"

I took a bite of one of the pancakes. "This is good!" I answered.

"Yeah yeah this is amazing!" Alan yelled.

All of the sudden, there was knocking on the front door. Mom walked up and opened it, it was Benny.

"Oh Benny, what are you doing here this early?" she asked.

"I was just wondering if Yeah-Yeah wanted to walk to school with me and the others?" he questioned. Mom turned around and saw Alan having his hands together and mouthing 'please'. She looked back at Benny.

"Sure, just stay together," she allowed.

Benny moved his head to look behind my mom.

"Y/n, wanna come?" he asked.

I faced towards the door. "I guess so," I answered.

He nodded his head and smiled. "Alright, finish your food and meet up at my house. We'll leave in fifteen minutes."

He went back to his house and my mom shuts the door.

"He seems nice," Mom said walking back to the counter. I continued eating my food and Alan just started staring at me.

I glanced at him. "What do you want Yeah-Yeah?" I objected.

He winks, "You and Benny."

"Bro, I don't even like him," I sighed.

"Mhm sure," he says, "one day you will."

"Fuck you," I mumbled. "Stop saying that."

A few minutes later, we finally finished our food. We grabbed our backpacks and headed out the door.

"Bye Mom!" we yelled.

She waved, "Bye, have fun!"

Alan and I walked over to Benny's house and saw him standing outside the door with the other sandlot boys.

"Wait Y/n, you actually came!" Benny chuckled.

"Yeah, I know," I said.

"You invited a girl to walk with us?" Ham asked.

He shrugged. "Diversity."

Ham shook his head and patted on his shoulder. "Whatever you say, Benny man."

He rolled his eyes. "Whatever, let's just start walking to school."

We all nodded our heads and started walking. I stayed completely silent for the first few minutes, they were talking about baseball.

If I'm being honest, baseball was just a game to me. It was just a game Yeah-Yeah played with his little friends. I sometimes forget Benny is like seventeen days older than me. How the hell did I remember his birthday? I don't know, I think it's because I used to talk to him in like elementary school.
