It was Friday, the last day of school. It was an early dismissal today which makes it even better. I walked to school with the sandlot boys, not worrying about what other people thought. At that point, I didn't care what they would say or think about me. The "they" is Lisa and Cynthia. Although I was friends with them for a long time, they always acted so judgmentally and two-faced.

We arrived at school and I walked into class with Benny because we were in the same homeroom. As we walked in, I saw Lisa and Cynthia already there along with a bunch of other people.

"Oh wow Y/n, thought you hated him," Lisa leered. I just ignored her and sat down on a desk next to where Benny was sitting.

I wanted to punch her, she didn't even know what Benny was actually like. He was a kindhearted athlete who cares about others and can be very defensive. How do I know that exactly? Well, we have become closer friends after I was ghosted for the first time. This summer, I want to like to make new friends, people who aren't like Lisa.

The sandlot boys are not bad at all, annoying at times, but not bad. I still felt bad for that new kid next door. He seemed nice (mentioned that like 60 times already but you get the point).

I tapped on Benny's shoulder. "Hey, do you think we should invite that new kid to play ball with us after school?" I asked. His face turned into a wide smile.

"Yeah, that's a great idea!" he agreed.

I nodded my head, "We should stop by at his house after school and take him to Vincent's."

"Yeah," he agrees, "and let him meet everyone else."

"Alright, so see me after school?" I asked.

"Where?" he questioned shaking his head.

"Outside the school you dumbo," I objected. "In front of the building."

He nodded his head and gave me a thumbs up with his hand. I did the same thing back at him.

The bell rang, and we all headed to our first classes. Today should be fun since it's the last day. Turns out, we had absolutely no work for our classes. We just did random last day of school activities.

After school, I met up with Benny outside the building.

"Hey," I greeted.

"Hey, you ready?" he asked. I nodded my head 'yes' and we rushed over to that new kid's house. We were running insanely fast, he was pulling my arm.

We finally made it, trying to catch our breaths. Looks like that kid skipped school because he was right in front of his doorstep, sitting down with a glove, and a black eye?

Benny and I approached him.

"Hey, we're going to play some ball over there, wanna come?" he asked.

"Nah, I'm good," he sighed.

"Oh come on, I thought you liked baseball," Benny said rolling his eyes.

"Yeah but-" he stuttered.

"But what?"

The kid lifted his arm. "My glove, my glove is ruined."

Benny reached out into the back of his pocket. "Always got an extra one."

"Deja vu, don't ya think?" I mumbled to him.

He tosses the glove to the kid and waved his hand. "Come on."

His name was Scotty Smalls, the new kid next door.

We all ran over to Vincent's Drug Store to meet up with the other boys. When we got there, we saw Ham acting like the Great Bambino with a hotdog in his mouth.
