Fossilized feelings

Their love was history; old and gone
Yet a souvenir stow beside her bed
Fate was sealed, words were etched
Yet she was astray in 'what if'
Magnificent discoveries changed world
Yet she dwelled on tethered memories
History doesn't repeat itself they say
Yet she ached for his love to recrudesce
