"I don't know if I'm ready, Simo," I tell him.

"Don't be stupid," he replies, putting his pants back on. "She'd be excited to see you. Don't you want that? Why do you have a huge bag here?"

I wash off the toothpaste from my mouth. "I do. I'm just worried." He walks over to me and hugs me from behind. I look at him through the mirror.

"You worry too much," he says, resting his head on my shoulder.

"You know I used to have recurring nightmares?" I tell him.

"Yeah? What are they about?"

"Every night it's the same. I'm flying. And the sun and moon are above me. They're side by side. And as I get closer and closer to them, I immediately fall to earth. And then I wake up in the middle of the night. Sometimes, I even just accept my fate in the dream and just let myself die."

"What do you think it means?"

"I don't know. It's probably some shit about how pride can be a bad thing. Like Icarus or something. Whatever. Anyway, last night was the first night I didn't have that dream," I look at him and smile.

"Was it because of me? Maybe I caught you from falling," he tells me.

I roll my eyes. "No. Stop. That's so corny."

He laughs and kisses my cheek. "I love you," he says.

"What?" I turn to face him. "What did you say? I couldn't hear you properly," I playfully tell him as I fasten his two remaining buttons.

He smiles and stares at me. "I said..." He pulls me closer. "I." he kisses my neck. "Love." He kisses my forehead. "You." He kisses my lips. Simone pulls away. "You still have some toothpaste left," he says licking his lips. I quickly rinse my mouth and wipe it with a towel. He walks out of the bathroom but I grab hold of his arm. I pull him in and kiss him again.

"Better?" I ask. He smiles and nods.

"Better. Now hurry up, we still have to grab something to eat."

We approach the stairs

We approach the stairs. But before we could take our first step, I pause. I'm self-destructing again. I don't know if I can do this.

I look at Simo.

He understands and just smiles at me reassuringly. He takes my trembling hand and together, we make our way up.

Simo knocks on the door. I purse my lips, bracing myself for impact. He puts his arm around my shoulders and caresses my back with his thumb. I take a deep breath. I can hear the door unlocking from the other side. It slowly opens. And there she is, my mother. She notices Simone first and smiles at him. Then she looks at me. She doesn't say anything for a while. I don't say anything either. She has a blank expression on her face.
