"Enough!" Rengoku stood before you, arms wide open staring into his father's eyes.

Looking up you were able to see the gaze of Rengokus ' father, piercing. "Idiot! Have your senses dulled? Out of my way!"

"I'm her mentor!" Rengoku said in defense. "Mentor? You couldn't mentor a toad nevertheless this doesn't need mentoring. It should be mentoring you."

He pointed at you with his sword but Rengoku moved the blade away with his hip.
"Father. I won't let you hurt her. Please father, she's our guest. She has a name." His eyes were locked and focused. This will was testable and it could be broken but he was aware he couldn't stand against his father.

The awareness tends to make people strive to live. With Rengoku, being aware of his weaknesses was willing to go up against his father.

You had thought,
'How admirable'. His fire was pure despite how much it burned. It was pure.

Rengokus father saw what you saw and didn't want to test his own son. Why did he decide not to? Is beyond your understanding.

"What are your reasons for being with my son? Why him? How dare you even come to my home and expect a warm greeting. I want you gone."

"Father! She's our guest. She has nowhere else to go. She's not hostile, she was assigned to kill demon's with me on my next mission."

His father only scoffed. "Kill demons? With that thing?"

"Father. She has a name. Y/n..." Rengoku wished to look back to you but he couldn't even trust his own father. Any open window could lead to your beheading.

"It, has millions of names. Am I not wrong?" He asked you as you stood up. "I do." You said not feeling ashamed.

Shinjuro, "You mock my family, our name, our home. For bringing her here. You would have at least consulted me about her. She brings nothing more but bad Omens."

Rengokus father bumped against his shoulder before leaving with the sword.
"She must stay out until we have finished blessing our house. It won't be safe until we do so."

Your eyes lowered as you bowed. "I thank you greatly. I apologize.."

Shinjuro stopped halfway entering his home to look at you. From the sound of your voice he could hear how you were aware of being a burden. And behind your formal composure that was enough to fool any man, there was no elegance.

You were a grey spirit like himself...
His eyes lowered to the ground lost in thought.

"You... may come in... once we finish blessing the house. Understand that it is my decision to do this."

Closing your eyes you nodded before looking down. Avoiding eye contact with a widow is best for respectable purposes. Shinjuro let his son enter, not allowing Rengoku to go behind.

--------------------

Waiting inside a room with who you were introduced to as Rengokus younger brother, Senjurō Rengoku.

He was shy but well mannered. The walls of this house were not as paper thin as you hoped. Unable to eavesdrop on whatever Rengoku and daddy Rengoku are talking about.

"What are these?" He looked through your bag of food items. "Everything is organized as food, weapons, and items. The food bag is medium with a peacock feather."

You watched him go through everything you had. Children were scary for you because you didn't know what to say around them..so you just mindlessly followed them and liked whatever they liked..

But this little boy was so shy... so sad..

Shinjuro had followed him to the waiting room as the doors slid open and your eyes met Rengokus. His smile was wide and his eyes were bright making you feel hopeful of the situation.

Stepping aside, his father's cold gaze only looked at you in disgust. "Follow me" he stepped aside, allowing you to step out so that you'd follow behind him. With your head down he could feel multiple eyes looking down at him.

Walking normally was the hardest part. Not to give into his fear of the hundreds of eyes and hands reaching out to him. Behind his back his most vulnerable spot.

The entire walk back to his room was a living hell. There were glimpses of things the corner of his eyes would catch. It made no difference if he turned to look at them. Whatever they were, they would disappear whenever he turned to them
