The shouting immediately stopped..and now everyone was starring at Mirabel.
"What...?" Abuela asked her while still really angry.
Mirabel looked at Camilo..wondering if what she was about to do was a good idea. Camilo smiled at her and nodded.
"You got this Mira..." He said quietly.
Mirabel nodded back and took a deep breath.
"I-...am not a bad influence.." She stated. "...And I am not careless. I've been trying to help this family in every possible way I can for years. I have been trying to please you for...years. Well you know what Im done...I am sick of trying to please you because all you see is a worthless careless teenager!! I don't care what you think of me anymore..because as long as I have someone here to remind me that I am special...I don't have to prove myself to you..or anyone else on how special I am!!"
Everything went silent for a moment. Her mother, aunt, and cousin were proud of her for standing up to Alma...but Alma of course was upset with her. She couldn't stay mad at her though...because deep down she knew that Mirabel was right..she had treated her granddaughter horribly over the years all because she didn't have a gift..and in that moment she finally realized just how badly she had hurt Mirabel.
"I-..."
"Mamá...just give us some space..." Julieta said softly. "We all need time to...calm down before we talk yo you again...especially Mirabel.."
Alma looked at her children...then looked at her grandchildren. She sighed then nodded and with that Alma walked to her room.They watched her for a few seconds until Mirabel finally said:
"I'll go talk to her later."
Camilo tightly hugged Mirabel.
"I am..so proud of you Mirabel."
She smiled and hugged him back.
"Thank you Camilo..for everything. If it wasn't for you I would have never had the courage to stand up to her like that."
"You're welcome prima..and please..never forget...that you are special..and you always will be.."
"I won't forget primo...I promise. Besides I have a pretty cool cousin that will always be here to remind me that I am."
Camilo smiled brightly and hugged his cousin once more. Mirabel hugged him back and just as before their laughter began to fill the entire house.
