Nancy pov

I lay in Arthur's bed sleeping peaceful when I was forced into a state of emotional pain. Arthur had woken me up and was forcing me out of bed

"Whyyy" i whined with my eyes still closed

"You've got school" he said. I opened my eyes wide and looked him dead in the eyes

"What?" I asked not blinking

"We talked bout it yesterday" he said

"I didn't think you were being serious" I yelled before pretending to faint. He just lightly kicked me

"Not gonna work. Tommy is taking you to school in 20 minutes so get ready" he said forcing me to stand up

"Aren't you coming?" I asked with sudden tears in my eyes. He looked shocked but knelt down to me height

"Hey. Look at me nance. You are my little mocking bird. And I love you. But right now, I need you to be as brave as a lioness. You don't need me at school" he said. He then kissed my forehead and stood up but I pulled him back down

"I'm not going without you" I grumbled into his neck as i hugged him tightly

"Alright baby girl. Me and Tommy will both take ya how's that sound ay" he said. I looked at him and rested my forehead against his

"Better" I muffled. I saw him smirk before lifting me up and chucking me on the bed

"Now get ready" he ordered. He turned around because I don't like leaving him. I know I'm only 7 and he often gives me a bath and stuff. But apparently him turning around teaches me that I can have my own privacy. Said it makes sure i know the social rules. What's right and wrong. So I don't let men take advantage of me. To be honest, his speech was quite Tiring.

In 20 minutes, Tommy was stood at the bottom of the stairs waiting. I was ready so grabbed Arthur's hand and walked out. Tommy carried my bag and both him and Arthur held my hands. They swung me down the street making me shriek and laugh

"Excited for school?" Tommy asked me. Damn. I'd forgotten we were going school. Well that's ruined my mood

"I'm gonna get back at you Thomas Michael shelby. You won't know how. And you won't know when. But I will have my revenge" I said. He looked at my brother concerned for my sanity. Ha. Aren't we all?

"I think you forget who I am sometimes nancy" Tommy said

"She knows who you are brother. But i think you forget who she is. Tell him nance" Arthur said

"I am Arthur's little mocking bird" I said confidently making Tommy roll his eyes and smirk

"Fuck ye you are. And what does that mean?" Arthur asked me

"It means I have more power than anyone in England" I said.

"Oh ye? Then how come I have more money than you?" Tommy asked

"You don't. You have your money. But I also have your money if I really want something. I also have Arthur's money, John's money, basically everyone's money and all I gotta do is ask. You have to work for it" I said giggling at his expression whilst he realised I was correct. Course I'm fucking correct. I'm a shelby

"Why do I need school?" I asked when we neared the gates

"Because you can't fucking read nor write. And you need to learn" he said

"Finn manages just fine. And anyway, those mean people who want me dead are still here. What if they get me whilst I'm in school?" I Asked. We had reached the gates by now and saw my teachers. Both my brothers knelt down to my height

"I didn't think of that Tom. It's not safe" Arthur said holding me on his knee

"I've got men surrounding the place. Your teachers are all the same and if there is ever a new teacher or student, I promise to do full background checks. And if you see anyone who looks like the people from the cinema chaos, call us straight away. The headmaster has said you can use the phone in his office" Tommy explained. Always got an answer for everything

"How did you convince him to let me use the phone. I'm never allowed in his office unless I'm in trouble" I said

"Because you're a fucking shelby" Arthur said lifting me up and spinning me around. I squealed with joy before he put my back on my feet. My brothers kissed my forehead and started to leave. But I immediately started to cry

"Nancy darling, you'll be fine" Tommy said

"Nooo. I want Arthur to stay" I sobbed as huge tears fell from my eyes

"Come on Tom. This isn't fair" Arthur said

"No. We are leaving. Im sorry Nancy but the tears won't work this time. Polly and Michael are picking you up after school and taking you back to Arthur's" Tommy said

"I want Arthur. Please" I sobbed. Tommy walked off but Arthur came and gave me one last hug. As i expected him to pull away, he whispered in my ear

"I'll get you out of here luv. Go to the gate round the back. We can spend the day at charlies yard with the horses" I nodded and wiped my tears before running off round the back of the school

Arthur pov

"I'm gonna take a walk. Clear my head. I hate to see her cry" I said to Tommy

"Alright Arthur. But remember, we've gotta be cruel to be kind. If you keep taking her out of school to make her happy now, then she'll have a miserable future" Tommy said. He then walked off and left. What a load of bullshit. Its not like she needs a job when she's older. She'll be perfectly fine with the money we all make.

I ran around the back once he turned the corner to see nancy. She was stood the other side of the fence. I leant over and lifted her up above the fence. She wrapped her legs around my torso and her arms around my neck tightly

"Missed me?" I chuckled

"I was so scared Arthur. I really though you would leave me" she sobbed wiping away the tears

"How could I ever leave you ay?" I asked. She smiled and kissed her cheek

"My cars a 5 minute walk from here. Then we can go up to charlies yard for the day" I said. She nodded her head enthusiastically. No one liked horses more than Tommy. Nancy wasn't too keen on them. That's a lie. Nancy is terrified of horses. But we are only there to hide for a few hours before I take her back to school for 5 minutes when polly will pick her up. Ill follow them to make sure she gets home safely and then the day will be a success

"I don't like horses. So what are we doing?" Nancy asked me as we got in the car

"We are just hiding my little mocking bird. Don't want Tommy see us. But we can just play on the yard. Eat some food from Charlie. I know you love rolling in the mud. And along as your uniform isn't too muddy then we should be fine" i said
