"It is Allah who has created the heavens and the earth, and all between them, in six days, and is firmly established on the throne: ye have none, besides him, to protect or intercede (for you): will ye not then receive admonition?" (32:04)

With every step he took, his long boots buried into the tall snow. By now he was heaving for breath, but this didn't deter his exertions in the least. The glacial path was becoming more excruciating and unforgiving with each stride. Yet, the more cruel his obstacle turned, the harder he fought against it. The anger searing his existence was making him senseless, so much so the -30 degrees cold wasn't ample to put it out either; for every painful breathing moment was a reminiscent of his horrendous past.

The memories kept slashing through him; leaving open wounds in its wake. His teeth grit hard in bitterness when his gaze trailed up towards the snow-falling sky. In an instant, his bloodshot eyes widened, the muscles in his neck clenching hard in restraint; when suddenly a low, guttural growl began to pierce the howling screams of the raging snowstorm.

His bellows interweaving with the blaring of snow, only halting to pledge his revenge to the heavens.

"I WILL SHOW YOU! I WILLSHOWYOUALL—!!"

He had only been able to say this much when all of a sudden his feet tripped over themselves, and he fell face down onto the heap of snow with a jerk.

The unexpected impact only worked to add fuel to the inferno blazing through his existence; further aggravating his inextinguishable rage.

"I will get everything I want. I WILL SHOW YOU! I WILL SHOW EVERYONE!!" He screamed on top of his lungs. His clenched teeth grinding in abhorrence when he grabbed a fistful of snow and stood up with a jerk to hurl it at the skies. Alas, only for the snow to hit back at him with force of nature, blanketing him with a layer of iced mist; and yet, failing to quell his insatiable fury in the least.

********************************

He stepped into the room, only to be greeted by the unexpected sight of her; who was curled up on his bed, while hugging his T-shirt close to her chest.

For a few moments, he watched her with a look of growing disdain while standing in the doorway and then abruptly he had slammed the door shut, yet failed to wake her up.

Slowly, one step at a time he crossed his way inside the room; reaching closer to her. The room was the same as he had left it 2 years ago. Nothing was out of place. Least of all her presence.

Without stopping in his tracks, he took off the muffler wrapped around his neck and walked towards the dressing table, where he placed it down. However, he didn't move away yet. Only kept standing in his place, with his impenetrable gaze fixated upon her reflection in the mirror.

Finally, after some thought he tore his gaze from her; but didn't leave his place from in front of the mirror. An impassive gaze coupled together with an inscrutable look was etched on his face perpetually.

His thoughts halted when his gaze wandered towards her once again. Only in the next moment, his feet had reflexively started to make way towards the bed. His steps halted midway when he reached near the edge and then slowly he started bending over her. His long fingers reaching out towards her face, only to trail lower towards her neck and stayed there for a few moments, hovering in its place. In the next moment, he had let his fingers wrap around his black T-shirt held in her clutches.

In a split second, he had sharply tugged away the shirt from her grasp; causing her to jolt awake from the harsh impact. With a sharp gasp, Alif sat up. Her eyes snapping open in horror from the unanticipated attack.

For a smallest fraction of a second, she gaped at him with a mixture of confusion and terror. However, only in the next moment she had her arms tightly wrapped around his neck with a shriek.

"ZARGHAM! You're here!!" She screamed on top of her voice, which was as swiftly mingled in with her cries.

"You horrible—horrible person! I hate you! I hate you the most! You're most horrible!" She was now sobbing into his arms bitterly. Her words an indecipherable mess between her whimpering and hiccups.

"I hate you! You never once returned my calls! You never once came to see me! You're so horrible! I hate you—!" She was still complaining and her cries were nowhere near ceasing.

For a moment only, Zargham let her have her breakdown without interrupting. He was staring straight ahead with knotted brows from the cage of her embrace, which he hadn't bothered to return. However almost instantly, in the next moment he had roughly ripped apart her unyielding grip on him.

"Who said you could enter my bedroom." His voice was unforgiving, laced with disgust and matching the coldhearted look in his eyes. Before she could say anything in return, he had got up with his t-shirt in hand; only to throw it in the bin on his way.

Alif felt a sharp gasp escaped her lips upon this unexpected action; yet, she could do nothing but gape at his back in shock, whereas he didn't so much as spare her another look.

"You've only become colder—" She finally managed to mutter under her breath between tears welling up in her eyes, but made no attempt to leave her place. Zargham didn't say anything in response, instead moved towards his walk-in closet to hang up his long coat.

Alif who was still perched up on his bed was now watching him with love filled eyes. The distance and time apart had failed to subdue her affections for him, instead it had only made her burn for him more.

"Did you miss me?" She inquired in a hopeful voice after wiping away her tears. The response came in silence.

"I know you did. Even if you never admit it." Glancing away, she smiled to herself , as if claiming to know his heart. Zargham only kept rummaging through his wardrobe.

"I missed you tons—Every single day—" She was still going on, but he had stepped into the washroom without paying any heed to her. When he came out a few minutes later, she was still there. But now she was standing infront of his mirror with her eyes downcast and face filled with grief. Her finger tips caressing the top of the heart pendant hanging from her neck.

A flicker of sinister emotion passed in Zargham's eyes at her sight but it was gone as quickly. That's when she noticed his presence.

"Zargham—" She couldn't go on because he had brutally cut her off.

"Why the hell are you still here?! Get out!" He barked in anger, causing Alif to jump slightly in fright.

When she failed to come up with a response, he marched forward towards the door and held it open for her.

"Get out. Now!" He bellowed once again, with eyes widening in rage.

Alif could do nothing but gape at him in shock, who was looking back at her with a mixture of impatience and scorn. She let her mouth open and close a few times, but couldn't come up with anything plausible.

Slowly, she began to cross her way towards him with her eyes downcast. Upon reaching near him, she looked up with a sad smile.

"Goodnight Zargham. I love you forever." The pain in her eyes was translated into her voice which broke with sobs; yet, he remained unfazed and slammed the door shut on her face.
